Rocksmith post release thread!

Quick question for those of you who have this game...can you use the cable that the game came with for recording on your computer? I'm currently interested in taking online guitar classes and if I can take classes while using the chord, I'll have an excellent selling point for the wife when I tell her that I can have both video game and educational value when purchasing this game.

The 1/4"-to-USB cord worked right out-of-the-box on my Mac; no setup required. I plugged it in and it showed up as one of the input sources in Amplitude, Logic, GarageBand, etc.

I don't have a Windows box at home to test with, but I think it should be pretty much the same experience there. Worst case, you might have to track down a driver to download.

FWIW, one cord will come with the game, and you can buy extras for $29. Usually, any of the decent audio-to-USB interfaces are more expensive than that, but this seems to work pretty well for the money. Love the breakaway plug so you don't accidentally send your game console or computer crashing to the floor.

I am glad to see they are planning on addressing the lives issue in Riff Repeater. Then I will be happier with this game. On the console issue, to each their own. I have XBOX, and like the features with the console, but I would not be opposed to PS3 if I had to go that route. I really don't care.

My son is musically talented. He can play the piano, saxophone, drums, and a few other instruments as well as sing. He doesn't play the guitar, even after the "chicks dig it" talk I had with him. I know if he ever decided to try he would pick it up quickly.

I am hoping this is a good enough mesh between video game, music, and guitar to get him interested. My daughter will jump into it right away with both feet.

And no, if he doesn't want to play the guitar, I will not force him. I would just like to see him try because I know he would be good at it. I have caught him messing around with my guitars when I have had to step out for a while.

After 2 days I love this game. Took off work yesterday and played all day so first i was like then i was like then i was like now im like . Had to buy an xbox so i ended up buying nba2k and battlefied 3 as well but RS is where the my main time goes.


edit: I reduced the display lag to 0 using hdmi on my sony lcd and have extremely low(barely noticeable) lag during songs. as previously mentioned there is lag on load screens

im really considering this, i have been watching the playstation store and just saw the megadeth pack, i really think this is a great tool for people like me who can play stuff but nothing you ever heard, lol. if they keep adding content they will have a real money maker and wonderful tool for the rest of us to enjoy. if money wasnt so tight i would pull the trigger now and get it

If you already have a guitar and a ps3 there is no reason not to grab this game. I bought a couple of the megadeath songs. Not really a metal guy but I like symphony of destruction

naturalblack, did you encounter chord issues playing the kings of leon song?

and yes, now that i've started playing rocksmith, i can't really justify playing any other playstation games that aren't teaching me skills. if i didn't ENJOY playing it, i wouldn't, but i really do like playing it, so it becomes very functional entertainment. i think the minigames alone are worth the price, great drills disguised as games. i feel i've really come a long way in just a week of daily enjoyment, able to do much more on the fretboard without looking at it, etc. also have more appreciation for songs that i wouldn't really be listening to normally (at least the guitar parts).

like do you find yourself using the stuff you "learned" when not in the game?
cus i have played GH/RB and its pretty mindless
like does seem more like you're just pushing buttons like gh rather than fretting strings like a boss
i want to learn what I'm playing and not just how to play it.
I can see myself losing interest in this pretty easy, but maybe not.
Is there a demo. I'll check in the morning. lol the time of post

havent played the kings of leon song. I did have trouble with the harmonics minigame. but I think i just need to fix my intonation

I've learned lots of techniques over the last couple of years but this game has taught me how to bring them all together and actually PLAY the guitar.

as far as learning, i'd say this:

if you can "master" all of the minigames (if that is possible?), your rudimentary guitar skills will be superb. you will be able to play guitar like the Terminator, with reptile-skin callouses on your fingers and wrists of steel! the minigames are clever because there are even different ways to play them. ducks, for example, you can hear the pitch of each duck as it appears and hit the fret without looking at the screen at all (eyes closed!), though it can get tricky with all of the wooshes and explosions and stuff .

the depth of learning the songs and "not just how to play them" will be up to you. eventually you can master each song in the game, and have to be able to play it with no visual cues in-time, so that's 50+ songs that you can learn and then play away from the game, absorbing that information as desired.

If you only play the songs and do not do any of the minigames, then you will just be playing songs. The mini games really help you with things that are usually a chore. I think the game is brilliant. Ducks has definitely helped me play without paying attention to where I am on the fretboard. The other games help me with chords I would not normally play. I finished off the technique challenges pretty easily, but still have a lot of work do to on the minigames in the guitarcade.
