That's why I bought my PS3 in the first place. My wife to be at the time had a nice little HDTV that was just hooked up to the cable box, picture looked worse than standard tv which I thought was a total waste of $. I'd heard the PS3 functioned VERY GOOD as a bluray so I bought one. And it is a great Bluray player! Of course I HAD to get a few games for it hehe. We wound up buying a couple of Sony BD-570's later so it rarely sees any bluray action now. Of course she thought I really wanted it just for the games. Can't imagine why...

I justified buying a PS3 last year because it would do double duty as a Blu-ray player. But even the better Blu-ray players are cheap enough now that you could just buy one, as well as an Xbox, if that's the way you chose to go.

It looks like the PS3 is cheaper than the xbox, so if you are not loyal to either one, get the PS3.

Hmmm, around here the Xbox seems to be cheaper. I'll keep my eyes open to see what the sales are going to be like for Boxing Day as I might be able to get a good deal then.

I don't watch movies enough to justify a player. Heck, I can't even remember the last time I turned on my DVD player.

I don't spend as much time messing around with video games as I used to and would be buying the system just for Rocksmith and a handful of other games that I really used to enjoy - NHL, NASCAR, UFC, Army of Two (especially the new one), and Madden. If I buy all of those games I will be quite content.

I am more used to the Sony controllers so would prefer a PS3 but I will go almost entirely by price. Since I don't play that much it isn't worth spending a whole ton of cash on. Whichever is cheapest will work fine for me.

I used to play alot of first person shooter and WWIII air combat flight sins, competively for years and loved them. Since I decided to rekindle my desire to learn to play guitar 19and months ago I've only played once. That was on pc. I can never get accustomed to the ps3 game consol type of controllers, even after I bought a game or 2 I just hate them so I never play games now. I should pick up one of the keyboard/mouse controllers I've seen for the PS3 then it would be a different matter, as long as those are not laggy. Played Counterstrike, Call of Duty numerous versions of both. And a great WWII combat flight sim called IL2 Sturmovik. Would love to have those on ps3 but I've been very dedicated to learning to play guitar. I had a cheap acoustic 2nd hand that was so hard to play that when it finally broke I never picked up another. Had I gotten a better guitar I probably would have continued to play. Oh well that's life and I'm trying to make up for lost time .now.

Finally got around to playing my Rocksmith. I'm kind of disappointed with the Technique portion of it. I did the Hammer on / Pull Off section. I got probably 20% of the notes correct. I tried it 3 times and I achieved the "GOLD". WTF I think you should achieve gold if you get 90% or better.

I'm throwing the bullshit flag on this one.

I'll have to watch it again to see if he was running through an amp. I think it's just some hype to get more game sales but good on the dude for getting up there anyway. Must have been a rush for him.

Nah, I think it's true. The song is not hard and if you play the same stupid song over and over and over, even a beginner would eventually learn it.

This is totally untrue at least for me. This is the major reason I'm not good at playing. I've been playing this version of Star Spangled Banner for over 2 years now and I have to have the tab in front of me or I can't recall it from memory. It's like that for a lot of songs. There are three songs that actually some what stuck "Enter Sandman", "Rock Bottom", and "Norwegian Wood".

I play this twice when as the last song I try to learn and I've been at it for 3 months. It just goes through my head like a strainer. Landslide tab (ver 2) by Fleetwood Mac @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

Look up the tab for the song he was playing, play it a few times and then tell me that you could not pick it up quickly. There are several songs in this game that I played a few times and got to master mode and can play them. In master mode they do not give you the notes on the screen, you have to do it from memory. Granted I am not a beginner, but still.

I agree

And on a slightly different note, I got a second cord so I am going to get my wife playing with me. I tried giving her lessons in the past and we made it to one lesson on the E chord and since her fingers hurt, we would "Give it a go next weekend". Two years later I'm still waiting for next weekend...

After playing it a few days. I think the game is full of shit ;) .. I played a few songs "single" notes and I sounded like crap and I didn't hit as many note as the game said I did. I average about 80% and there is no way in hell I am doing that good on some these songs.

Anyone else have a challenge with retaining learning with this method?

If I listen to a song and learn the parts by ear I have it, if I play through a song on this about 200 times the next day in my jam room I can hardly remember the melody, let alone the arrangement. Some songs stick, songs with a strong hook for example but others pffft not even. The solo to more than feeling I went to play it the other day for a friend because its pretty cool and I had a total blank. lol

Colchar: Go with Xbox 360 elite used..$100 on craigs list, works like a champ

Hamtone: I have experienced that too, and I didn't like it. I have partially corrected it by paying attention rather than "playing". I talk to myself in my head while playing now and try to document the progressions, the rhythms, etc. I find it's easy to not think while playing this game. I think that's your main issue and like me, you should try to pay attention to what you're doing more rather than just sight reading.

Sinster: Scoring 80% is not your score. That's your accuracy of the current difficulty. Your total score is your TOTAL SCORE. Falling 90% of 20k is nothing amazing, while 95% of 100k means you're almost playing the entire song perfectly.

@All: Be skeptical of any skeptics. Mostly bullshit. There are a few legit complaints but nothing game breaking. Any real guitarist will tell you this is simply another avenue to practice technique and stamina. If they don't agree, they are just too "hipster", *rolls eyes*.

As for me, I haven't played much recently at all. I've got about 75% of the tracks at 100k pts or more, and I just need a break. This game doesn't revolutionize guitar, or the guitar world, but it's the best $80 I've spent on guitar related gear EVER. It's somewhat like having a guitar teacher..NOT AS GOOD..but close. Also, at the end of a few months, you will know how to play some kick ass songs.

Still waiting for RockSmith 2 or a sale on DLC content..

If it has been said already, just ignore me... I dug out a USB extension cable (PC type) to try out on the XBOX to get more distance from the XBOX, and it works perfectly. It even seems to correct some of the lag issues I had been having. Pretty simple fix for a nuisance problem.
