I'm a new member here and also a noob when it comes to electric guitar so I think this game will be a blast and work well for me. I am planning on picking it up this weekend for xbox. This is is said to be lefty compatible which is great.

I just read this whole thread and there is some great stuff here, (good humor). I am wondering if I can get an additional cord and let a buddy play along on my acoustic/electric....the game is centered around electric but for fun it may be worth a try.

....This game will also break my addiction to Forza 4 lol. I think the amps and effects will be really cool, almost like using a Fender Mustang amp lol.

I will post my experience after I get into this and have some time. This may even get my GF into playing, as I see it is lefty compatible as we both are.
The lefty thing is straight forward. During setup it'll ask you what type of headstock your guitar has and if you are left or right handed. That's all there is too it, it'll automatically flip the screen around for your user.

Also, you can get a second 1/4"-to-USB cord for $30 anywhere they sell Rocksmith. The FAQ at Ubisoft says you will also need some sort of soundhole pickup to use Rocksmith with an acoustic guitar, but I haven't tried it myself.

The one thing that I don't like is the cord length, but my wife tried to step over the cord yesterday and it came apart. Then it hit me, I have a few controller cord extenders from my original XBOX. I wonder if they will work on the USB cord for rocksmith. I am going to dig them out and give it a try.

You could probably just use a 1/4"M to 1/4"F extension cord too.

...or just put a tuner or any buffered pedal in between two guitar cords.

I am not positive, but I would guess it is 8-10 feet. I can sit on my couch and it reach across my living room, though I am in an apartment, so keep that in mind.

11.25 feet. Should be 15' or 18' IMO.

I am now totally convinced that I am going to learn A LOT from Rocksmith! To me this is far beyond a "game". It is that, but for me its the best teaching tool there is. Sure there is alot you wont learn from it, but it inspires me to practice better than anything I have yet to find! Im a noob at guitar with 1.5 years playing time so far. I just go to the various songs and play them in rehearsal mode with both chord and/or notes. And Im learning alot and having fun doing it! Its an awsome program for my level of experience!!

I am at 2.5 years (on and off I suppose) and learning a bundle from it. As as standalone tool I think it will only result in a flurry of bands with guitarists playing the same cover songs using bad technique. Use it as a tool in your learning arsenal and I think it has AWESOME potential. But not as a dedicated tool.

I love it so far. Just wish I had more time to spend on it.

I totally agree with you! And the guitarcade games Bud Stoner mentioned. The songs and games are great practice, with the games it really allows me to focus on fretwork, But its not a stand alone teacher at this point. But I definitely believe this is just the beginning of a whole new class of programs that at some point in the near future WILL be moving in the direction of a program that will be intended to be as close to any full fledged teaching aid as they can make it.

At the same time I believe it will also continue to improve in the game direction as well. That's my hope for the future of this program. I just hope the market for this type of programing will support it from the perspective as an educational tool and for gaming. Im crossing my fingers because I see a huge potential for the future of Guitarsmith. On that note, I am off to fire up my PS3!!!

I tried the pure audio setting on my AVR tonight and it worked great. It seemed to have taken away the lag.

Please, everyone use tab view (low E string at the bottom). It will save you a lot of greif in the future.

i dont get why they even have the option to have the low E on top. i should just mimic how reg tabs are

It would be nice if it could actually be done both ways. People could choose to use which ever.

Creating an account here just to call someone ignorant, and you dont even have a guitar to play the game with seems like not the best way to get a welcome here and pointless at that. You could state your opinion without calling someone else who actually does play a guitar ignorant. That's ridiculous.

um, what is DLC anyway

thanks

Low E on top mimics how the fretboard is with the notes coming down the pipeline, where low E on bottom mimics looking down at the fretboard.

I think for beginners, I think low E on top is probably going to be easiest but it is backward from the tab they'll use if they ever take it to the next step.

DLC = downloadable content. In this case, extra songs you can buy.

Does anyone know how to change your user name?
Also is there a way to pick different users, like if a friend came over and want to play it. I wouldn't want his playing to affect the levels I'm at on any of the songs.

I'm liking this game more and more each time I play it. I also get totally lost when they throw a B,G, or D string(don't know the colors). But I'm sure in time it will be second nature.

I hope that total beginners understand how important using the correct fingers is and pay attention to what fingers the game is telling you to use. It will really help them get going faster and not develop bad habits.

I highly, highly recommend this game to people like me. I am not a beginner, have been playing for about two years, but have not learned a lot of songs. I would sit and practice scales and books, but found it tedious looking for youtube videos and correct tab to learn songs I like. I recently got GuitarPro also. GuitarPro is fantastic, also, but I'm really really digging Rocksmith...

this is cool for tabs too Guitar Tabs With Rhythm | Songsterr Guitar Tabs and Chords

they also make an app for the iPhone thats $5

My only disappointment is the lack of going over guitar theory- perhaps thats for some other time. Theres another "not so well known" one that Gibson is pushing that has some. Im betting its nowhere near as fun as this is. I still suck at looking at the screen instead of my guitar frets tho...lol

arent songs full of theory and by learning new songs, you learn more theory

anyway, thats just my THEORY :laugh2:
