Ah, I'm so jealous. This guitar played like a dream and has essentially no issues...just replaced plastic, aftermarket Bigsby, non original case. Sold for $80K BEFORE buyer's fees. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. When they hit 50K I'm taking the plunge.

I am amazed that I have been so conditioned that I have come to believe a guitar like this is considered a great deal at 80K. I can understand a 400 year old violin, but a Les Paul? I guess it proves the subjective theory of value the Austrian School of economics postulates.

Please don't get me wrong, they are super cool.

Indeed this one is amazing guitar, I personally don't like Bigsby, played few Gretsch guitars with Bigsby and didn't really like it. Tune-o-matic wins BIG TIME

when I was searching for a Les Paul mid of the 70is I had an offer for a 1960 Burst for around 3100 $. Didn't want to spend that much for a guitar -
ended with a 69 Deluxe GT for 650 $.......:hmm:

I couldn't find a video of them actually playing the best guitars, like the burst, the 335 and the 2 sunburst strats. Did I miss them?

He did it to raise money for a charity, I will find where I saw that and expand further on it.

Edit - It was to raise money for one of his humanitarian projects. Raised over a Million dollars too.

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

Well, according to my opinion it's not a sign, but a fact/proof that the vintage/burst market has already "crashed" (well relatively speaking).I don't think we're far off from "seeing" bursts changing hands for way less than they used to.I mean,if Gere tried selling it 5-7 years ago,it would easily fetch at least $150,000...

JPP373, have you seen any documented history for this guitar? That's exactly what I was looking to find, and there doesn't seem to be anything in the sale notes about where it came from or who it's previous owners were. Thanks.

Looks to me to be a reneck, at least a re-fingerboard, which would bring the $ way down, the high-end market being purist-driven...

Who cares? As long it's not 90% replaced it's forgiven, I would rape this one if I had the money. Dammit where is that winning lottery ticket :laugh2: ?
