What's the MapleFlame Mod?[/QUOTE said:
two inches 6/32 stainless steel (stock is 1" long) thumb wheel studs replacement!
while your at it drill and tap your stock bridge (if you have a drill press... for 4-40 SS set screw) to lock it in place.

notice the studs (Maple flame mod) is plush even with the bridge ... very sturdy and eliminates the double thumb wheel mods (Bobbo's Mod) as well.

for R9,R8 or your case R0, you might want to drill on the back (non adjusting side) of the bridge, because the pup rings are too high (bridge pup ring would restrict adjustment) unless you cut your allen wrench short to clear.

There's a thread somewhere about the maple flame mod...

Thanks, guys. I never thought about the knobs. I don't mind them as is, but I will keep my eye out for options just in case.

R9, I mention that it's built like the other historics because a lot of people seem to wonder about it since GC sells the guitar, which is understandable unfortunately.

One bit of advice, take everything a GC salesperson tells you about these guitars with a grain of salt. The only person at GC that had any clue about these guitars was the manager of my local GC. Every run of the mill sales guy I talked to about them in two GCs didn't know much about them at all. I'm sure some do, but none I spoke with in the last couple of weeks.

I just think the normal golden look better, but that doesnt change my mind about that it kicks ass! :D

Thanks, guys.

It is a lot of guitar for the $$$. When you lok at the price of a new Gibson USA Standard compared to what you can get during a promotion like the one I took advantage of, it's a great deal.

So, anyone dye the fretboard on one of these? Not black but just darken up the rosewood brown a little?

get some fret dr. it will darken it up nicely.

I've never seen the R0 in the cavity like that on a G0.
I have a PT BB R0 and it doesnt have those markings.
Or, the non-stained wood. Your is really sweet!

Gonna have to one of the local GC's and give one a run, everybody talks very highly of them.

Is there any way to get one of these without the pickguard already installed? Is it already on when GC receives it from Gibson?

I also took advantage of the promo and got mine for $2349, I received it three days ago.
Considering I paid just about $2000 in 4/09 for my 2009 USA Les Paul Traditional Plus, $350 more for a Custom Shop is amazing.
I wish I never would have bought the Traditional, great guitar, but not up to the Historic in overall quality.
In fact, my Traditional is back at Gibson under warranty for poor fretwork that makes the guitar unplayable on the High E string. Most likely they will exchange it for another guitar.
They over aggressively rounded off the frets so if you don't press down perfectly on the high E string it will go off the fret, hammer and pulloffs are almost impossible.

Like you I didn't warm up to it right away, but after two days of playing it, I realize what a fantastic guitar it is.
Great sound & great playability right out of the box, no tweaking necessary.
Just tuned it and jammed.

QUESTION:

Did yours come with one or two pickguards?

Thanks, guys.

Dave999z, You may be able to custom order one without the PG, but I have never seen one come from GC without the PG installed. Most VOS versions have them. The gloss finished guitars are the only ones I've seen without the PG installed.

Yell03, nice score on the G0. Mine came with 1 PG.

Here is my 1st mod. Added a tone bleed cap to the volume pot. I'm still playing with the resistor value, though. Right now I have two 110K ohm resistors in series (I didn't have a 200K ohm resistor handy) with a 500pf cap. It works pretty well but I may tweak it a little to see if I can get a little more out of it.

One pickguard, cool, just making sure I wasn't missing anything.:)
