Replacing Grover Kidney buttons to Ketstone/Tulips...??

I recently installed a set of Grover's w/Kidney buttons on my LP Standard. I would have much preferred Keystone/Tulip buttons instead, though Grover offers none that I could find, at least not with the machine heads I wanted (locking 18:1).

It seems I recall someone, somewhere, replaced the Kidneys with Keystone or Tulips.

Anyway, does anyone know where to get these replacements that will fit properly?...assuming there are any....????

Are you looking for metal or plastic keystones?

If plastic (ie, the more vintage correct looking ones) I’ve never seen replacement plastic buttons for Grovers (doesn’t mean they aren’t out there, I’ve just never found them).

If metal... chrome or nickel? Nickel keystone buttons are easy to find: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-5...0001&campid=5338014323&icep_item=362185234826

But I don’t recall seeing just the chrome keystone buttons for sale by themselves. As a matter of fact, come to think of it, I don’t think I have seen Grover keystones (the metal ones) in anything but nickel or gold. So if you have chrome you may be out luck.......

what model grovers did you put on? From what i've read here the locking version "model no. 502" won't accept the keystone replacement buttons. They will fit the non-locking version though.

Correct me if i'm wrong because i'd like a set of keystones as well!

They are the 502 RotoGrip. I would prefer chrome if they can be found. Nickel could work, though I'm not sure they would look right with no other Nickel on my LP...only chrome.....everywhere!

careful where you source the buttons from, I bought from Allparts and they don't fit at all.

Hello there, please do a search on eBay for Guitar tuner tulip button. I have used them on locking Grover tuners.

Those should fit no problem. The drill holes and screw bushings, etc. should all the be same. Price is good too... think you found your solution.

But the OP said "locking tuners".

I just installed the Grover 502 locking tuners and was looking to replace the buttons only. I just might buy the machine heads for the buttons if they will fit my 502s.

I want to do the same with my 2017 Standard T that came with the locking kidney tuners. Would these work for me as well if I just replaced the buttons and left the rest of the locking tuners as is?

I don't have locking tuners on my '15 Special but I changed the buttons out last year. I made a post about it during that time. http://www.mylespaul.com/threads/kidney-bean-to-keystone-grover-buttons-swapout-question.365982/

I purchased the Keystones from Allparts and they were a simple and easy swapout. I also purchased some Hipshots from Ebay that fit but I didn't like the look.
