Hi,

I have a 2006 Les Paul Standard in Ice Tea. Picked the guitar this morning and I noticed some marks/stain on the binding in a few areas.

The first area is probably where I rest my arm when playing so I understand how this one came about and it doesn't bother me too much.

The other two are near the binding and back of body towards the toggle switch are annoying me (especially the one on the binding). I would like to get rid of them or at least the one on the binding. Not sure how long they have been there or even what caused it. I play sitting down and commonly wear black shirts so maybe this is an area where the shirt, breast and binding come together ?

I have attached some photos to show you.

What is safe on the finish to use to try and get rid of them ?

You can try wiping it with naphtha its safe for nitrocellulose and if its on top it shoud take it off. If its in the nitro buffing it out might work. The binding you can probably scrap clean with a razor, but I'd just chalk it up to honesty play wear and leave it. I dont think it looks all that bad, but its your guitar.

Great. I'll get hold of some naphtha over the next week or so and give it a try.
I probably wont try the razor - I'd be too worried that I would cause more damage !

If I can clean it up, great, if not, I'm sure over time I wont even notice it.
