From another thread on the 2015 models.

Personally the only feature I like is the removable pick guard, nice idea and that would be a good retro-fit kit for them to sell.

So... anyone know of a retro fit kit?
Presumably the pickguard and a pair of pickup rings.

This could be useful.

FIW, the pickup rings with the slots are not available from Gibson. I emailed Gibson about this a couple of weeks ago, and here's a cut and paste of their reply:

Hi, Thanks for the email. Unfortunately, these are only used for production models, and are not sold separately by us. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm sorry, but I don't really get it.

A Les Paul is born with a pickguard. It's part of the anatomy.

Why do you want to cut one of the limbs off?

It is like saying that a Les Paul is born with a set up specific pickups and why change them out?

Try convincing Gibson of this. They seem to change the anatomy at will...

So much for swapping out pickup rings to Historic or other aftermarket if you want the removable guard...

What the hell is Historic about a clip-on pickguard?

After the holidays blow over I'm guna try and grab something like this. Its nice to have the option.
Some days I crave having a pickguard on my LP, other days I'm happy with her bare naked.
Honestly, I think its a great thing that Gibson have started including them on the new lineups.

i dont know if this is actually true, but i have read in more than one post that bobby lee isnt answering emails about the pickguards. maybe he decided to throw in the towel after he saw that gibson has now made his idea a "feature".

I don't know if Bobby Lee is still in business or not. His website still works. I have left several voice mails on his business phone number, sent pm's and emailed him several times. No response as of yet.

When is the last time you heard someone say "Man, that guitar would be awesome except for the screw holes where the pickguard was attached." There's something authentic about a LP with a pickguard removed and the two little screw holes that remain.

I think I'd rather have the two screw holes than the big holes in the side of the pickup rings where the "new and improved" pickguard snaps in. But hey, that's just me..
