Ok, so I bought the 2010 Gibson Les Paul Traditional as seen in my avatar photo back in May. I've loved the guitar and it feels, looks, and smells genuine Gibson. But, a month or so ago I took my LP to a music store to test out some amps.

The guy at the shop proceeds to tell me my Gibson is a fake. Why? Because we got to talking about the price I got it at on ebay brand new. I paid $1650 for the guitar brand new and he tells me it is fake.

Since then, I've had a couple others tell me there is no way I could have gotten such a deal.

so, I finally emailed Gibson and behold...it is real!!! Just as I predicted. :thumb:

Amazing that some people can NOT fanthom anyone paying less then MAP, or that sellers might be just fine getting less then a 30% mark up!

As you are aware - $1650 is an AWESOME price!!

How did Gibson verify it?
Just post picture here and the experts will tell you if it's real or not.

I gave them the serial number and sent them a few pictures and they said that the guitar was made on the 57th day of 2010 at the Gibson factory.

Grats! Nice guitar you got there. And dont mind what other people say. They just envy you, or they know shit. I had people come and tell me my custom is fake, just because im not a good guitar player, and lousy players are not 'worthy' to have expensive guitars. These people never even touched a gibson guitar, but they know for sure its fake. Just jealous my friend!

I wouldn't shop at the guitar shop in question ever again if they base the legitimacy of a guitar on the price you paid for it! There are so many ways to visually determine authenticity the salesman either doesn't know anything about guitars or he was coached by the shop's owner to talk people into paying retail.

Simply by photos, many people on this forum could have easily assuaged any fears you may have had as to your guitars authenticity.

GOOD FOR YOU!

You would have to be really stupid to not know that was real.

I remember taking lessons at a store in LA (Guitarville - now long defunct) and the first day I came in with my LP the owner of the store wanted to see the LP. So I pop it out and he scrutinizes it... He was certain it was a fake and wanted to open it up so I let him and then he was convinced otherwise. The guy was a GREAT player as well as a pretty big collector as well. But I was amused that he thought it was a fake :)

1600$ isn't that crazy for a trad. considering they go for 1900$ brand new. some people just dont follow ebay auctions and are ignorant to current prices.

i've seen a Classic go for 975$ on ebay!

It's definetly a fake. I'll give you $1700 for it right now so you won't feel so bad about buying it.

If it was a fake...

...it would have been a fake worth paying $1600 for.
