Has anyone else noticed how odd the pickguard shape is on some of the recent reissues? At its worst, it is comically off, but it seems to vary (I've seen some that were at least in the ballpark).

Here's a 2019 reissue - note that the outward curve and dipping cutaway section of the guard are just wrong, and there is too much space between the guard and the P90. Color on this one is way off as well, but I'll chalk that up to lighting.

Compare that to the SG below (also in my avatar) - that's a real 62. How can Gibson get such a simple thing so wrong?
Makes the guitar look odd to my eyes...

I hadn't noticed, but now that you mention it. :hmm:
The colour looks wrong from that photo, as well...
Your 62 looks wonderful, btw! :dude:

Thanks so much! It's a special guitar that I was lucky enough to come across a few years back. The neck is just perfect and the single P90 really covers all the bases. I had never owned an SG before this one - now I totally get the magic in these guitars.

I sure noticed it when compared to my '64. It surprises me when Gibson makes these changes, like the knob placement on the 2012s. Is it one of those "gotta change it this year" deals?

Here is a 2016 SG Junior with the stock pickguard on the left and a 1965-shaped 3-ply pickguard that I made on the right.

The difference may be minor to the casual observer, but none of us fit that description.

The one you made is a HUGE aesthetic improvement, IMO. :thumb:

:cheers2:
