Just another thought, cracked cymbals would also be good to recycle.. they alloys are pretty loaded. They're useless after a certain point unless relathed which not a lot of people can do. I think it would be pretty cool if a business did push for recycling these two items!

If youre James Jamerson... About 40 years or so

I've been renting a bass for about 9 months now and it's really due for a new set. I've even boiled them once for the temporary 'renew'. I only play it for recording so not that much.

I'd say under my usage they last about 3 months or so....debating flat wounds next time around.

I've got flats on an old Peavey precision type bass. I have no idea how old they are or how long they've been on there. They were on there when I bought the bass used for $99.

They play in tune. That's all I care.

Kinda sound like I'm just kicking a big cardboard box in the corner, but for some things that's perfect. I dig 'em.

Ya, the longevity factor's a biggie. Especially for the price. Mine's a Classic Vibe p-bass.

I just might have to try the flats now.

I know people that use the large E strings to clean out their one hitters.

How long does a set of bass string typically last, PA?

I have 5 basses that I rotate pretty regularly, so it's hard to say.
My main player is a '07 US Fender P bass, I change them about every 3-4 months and use DR High Beams exclusively. Because of the coarsness of the winding, they get pretty dead from loading up with oils and skin.

When I boiled them the one time, the crap that collected at the top of the water was pretty gross. :laugh2:
