I used to get horrible stage fright, but after doing multiple shows with large crowds I eventually got numb to it, and only worried about equipment failures. Now I'm just a ham that will play in front of anyone willing to listen :)

I like Stevie and forgive him his schtick, as he wouldn't have the number of followers he has if he just played it straight. Sad that he can't play in front of crowds, as I think he'd kill it...

I never had stage fright until I played an outdoor gig during the day. Holy shit I was nervous. It really took me by surprise. Just for a song or two then it subsided. On a dark stage there is the illusion that you are somewhat hidden. Nowhere to hide in the daylight.

Wow! I dont know how you guys do it , not getting nervous before a show.
I was in a band that did 3-4 shows a week in Los Angeles, and every show was always a stomach turner just before showtime.

I would usually do a shot of scotch then start drinking a beer. Not enough to get shit faced or mess up my playing, but it took the edge off.

At first I took the Bowie approach, the character on stage wasn't me. But after doing shows 5-6 nights a week for a little while you just get over it, and a guy with more experience told me don't take it all so seriously and personnel.

I like "the edge" - that bit of fear that makes it an adventure. It focuses the mind.

I always say, "Life is a beautiful tapestry - take the edge off and it starts to unravel"

Besides, back when I drank even a little made me sing flat, not that I really had any experience with "a little."

Fear is an ugly thing to face, but a great self esteem booster when you overcome those fears.

FDR said it best ..... and we know what he said ..... " The only thing we have to fear .... is fear itself " .

My 7 year old daughter loves his Youtube channel .... she wants me to show her how to play guitar.
