Any ideas where to start looking also what would be a reasonable price and can You expect a cash discount, if so how much. Ive been looking at a guitar center 59 BOTB "page 58 burst" not sure whether to go for that or a R9 cherry burst. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

GC in Hallandale should have a good amount of guitars to choose from and after they showed themselves as customer friendly the other day, I'd recommend them as one place to go to

I'm not sure how the market is out there. I'm in the Midwest, but as far as it goes here...yes, you should definitely expect a cash discount. And work them a little. Dealer cost on R9's is usually around $3500-4k. Around here, you should be able to walk out with a real nice VOS for $4300-$4500. Gloss is about $400 more. Of course the asking price is usually $1000 higher than that, give or take, so it pays to shop around a little if you can. Good luck!

I guess the Orlano guitar show is soon

http://www.guitarexpo.net/gxpo/pdf/Orlando_Public_13.pdf

Go there FIRST if your in the neighborhood, and get a sense of what you want. Because I went through 12 Les Paul's before I figured out what I wanted, and it took a year or more. I have narrowed it down to four very special instruments that are ZEN to me. It's a combination of Tone, Playability, Tone woods and maple tops and dare I say color. I never thought any of that was an issue. I played the same Black Stratocaster for close to 20 years.
(wore out the frets and she's in semi-retirement) Went to go and buy an R9 and WHAM! whole new world. Take it slow, shop and play as many as you can before you buy. Decide whats right for you, cuz ain't one made like another.

hope that don't sound too corny.....:hmm:

Mostly have fun.

Thanks for your replys. Hope the price's dont go up in January. Im getting a family member to pick it up so wont be able to play The guitar. Ive played a few here in New Zealand but they sell for 9 to 10k, I know its a bit of a gamble hopefully worth it. Any advice on what to tell my family to look out for.

I won't recommend Normans Rare Guitars. Almost all of his historics are used or ex-Guitar Denter models. Nothing wrong with used guitars but he prices them like they are brand new. If I were looking to buy a new or used R9 I would check out Marks Guitar loft or Grinning Elk, or Daves Guitar.

My suggestion would be (as you won't be able to play it anyway):
Go through the webpages of the best dealers (wildwood, Dave's, mark's, musiczoo, etc). Choose a few that you like and talk to the people in the store to pick out the best one according to your likes (neck size, sound, etc). Then you can buy it and send it to where your relatives are. You won't get a cash discount, but you won't pay taxes if you order from another state. This way you can chose the one you want and won't have to depend on your families likes (no ofense). I don't know if they are familiar with guitars...

Just my 5 cents

Keep in mind that return policies are short too, I think Marks is 24 hrs and Dave's is too, That's from the time its delivered.

If your going to Fl. Call the GC first to see what they have in the store . As of lately they have not been keeping many . And they can turnover quickly , at times . Depends on what it is . There might also be something in the West Palm Beach store . That wouldn't get listed but it's there , less a Plat room .

You might have better luck at the show . I've been there a couple of years ago and you can find New and lots of used . A whole lot more choice there than any one store . :thumb:

Go to Home | Gbase.com > Guitars Amps & More and look for what you want....there are dealers in all those areas and many more...maybe you'll find something somewhere else.

Most dealers have a 24 hour/48hour/etc right to return policy. You'll have to verify the return policy before you pay for the guitar but it gives you piece of mind. Obviously you'll pay for shipping back should you want to return it.

Good luck!!

You will have to declare it when you bring it back through Customs.
I looked into doing this myself (into the U.K.), but the import duty and v.a.t. made it more expensive than buying off the shelf here.
Look into it.
Also, check you import policy on the woods on the guitar.
Not saying it will be an issue but it has been recently and NZ & Oz are hotter on this than many other places.
You may need a certificate determining how it's finished and that it's not one of your 'listed' rare woods.

I have a Les paul standard, Fender strat deluxe and a Martin all from the USA, had to pay duty on them but had no problems getting them into the country. I better find out if anything has changed
