R9 or R8

Right now I'm saving for an R8 or an R9. My question is, is it possible to find a perfect used R9 for the same price as a new R8? $3,399?

Is the only difference the flame top?

R9s are supposed to have a slightly thinner neck and also weigh less.

I've read several posts here where guys got them for $2,600.
I got my R8 from GC, $2,500...but that's because they canceled another guitar on me.

If I could get it for $2600 I would be amazed. My local shop matches price so if I can find a place that's selling an R8 for 2600 then they will match and they like me anyway because I buy all my stuff from them except Marshall amps and Martin guitars because they don't carry them.

I had an "in" with a shop (my local mom and pop shop!) who cut me a deal since I ordered my guitar during their reauthorization period with Gibson, which has come and passed. There are guys on the forum who have gotten R8's for $2.5-2.7k through online vendors, though. Anyone know if Mark's Guitar Loft is one of them? There are a couple - someone will give you a link here...

I got my '06 from Saul at Centre City. $2,400 after taxes, and shipping. I don't know if any of the dealers will go that low anymore. It WAS two years ago...

Try some of the online vendors that have ads here. Mark's Guitar Loft, Centre City (they got a site, B?)... check Ebay (I've seen some go for $2.5).

Ah, so they are going that low. If I could swing it right now, I'd be buying another one!
