Can I get just the dye?

Dunno? Maybe.

Or you might find something similar elsewhere.
It doesn't sound to high tech to me.

One thing to consider is if acrylic stains the same way as celluloid?

May I ask how much you paid for?? Just wanna get some idea for the selling price if I planing to sell it.

Well, all things being relative, let's just say I bought it at the street price of a regular 59 VOS.

If you bought yours on e-bay, I just noticed that I sold my 2001 R9 Yamano Murphy Aged Les Paul to the guy who sold you the guitar....what a smalll world.

Indeed!! :D
Yours looks beautiful by the way, I wouldn't have let it go!

Well, I might not have obsessed so much on the inlays if I hadn't found out you could easily correct them! :)
I've already ordered and received a set from Retrospec and even before installing and applying the die, I think they look much better!

Well yes, but the guitar loses some originality. It will devalue it a bit, but I'd live with it.

The guitar sounds amazing fully open too, but, like Bob and Liam, I'd like to get a finer range of action from the pots.
From what I've gathered around the forum, I should get the Superpots and CTS audio taper from RS Guitarworks.
(BTW, short or long shaft?? :naughty:)

Short shaft. If you regret the Superpots I'll pay for them for you - I'm that confident that you will be very happy with them.

As for the caps, I'm not sure yet.
The guitar has orange drops 715, so I could use an upgrade here.
I haven't decided which type, although PIO caps seems the more appealing option for my tastes. :)

Very under-rated cap, the 715. I think they are great, as good as a lot of PIO, but not as good as NOS Bees.

Also, the guitar is wired "modern style" by the looks of it.
I've got to dig a pit deeper to decide if the "50's style" would be better for me.

It takes 2 minutes to change from one to the other, but 50's is worth getting used to. I'm quite struck with having a guitar that's still alive with the volume rolled off, even if it makes the taper a bit weird.

But something intrigues me...
There is this naked ground wire coming from the neck tone pot and going somewhere...
I can't see that on the different diagrams I've found, so I have no idea what it's for??

What Bob said...

...a solution to have them ship direct from the UK because I do not want to have custom fees on top! :Ohno:

There will be a way quite soon! Can't say any more right now, but it will be in good time for Christmas.

So, are the inlays in my 2001 Acrylic? And my question about the dye was more along the lines of finding out a brand name or any other identifying info to help me find it.

(Sorry for being so dense here...)

Thanks,
Bob

There's no indication on the dye pack I've got, but I'm sure if you ask the guys at Retrospec, they'll let you know what you need.
They might even sell you some for a few bucks.
Every time I had to deal with them, they were really nice. :)

The guitar has Classic '57 pups, which are alright (got them on my '61 SG) but I'm wondering what you guys think could be a better alternative? :hmm:

Any suggestions?

IMO, all aged guitars need some really nice handwound PAF replicas that are aged nicely. Botique pickups are the best! :thumb:

Yes, I'm still weighting in some options...
Holmes (If I can find some)
OTPG
Sheptone
...
So many choices! :hmm:

It's hard to seperate hype and truly good stuff.
This forum might help...or not! :applause:

word of advice ..don't use the dye.

Yeah, I was considering if I should or not. :hmm:

I guess being the right material, it'll age just fine on it's own, right?

Have you had bad experiences with it?
