Hello experts. I have a 2006 R8 I purchased in the classifieds not too long ago. I haven't done a ngd post yet because I never get around to taking pictures. Anyway, after several different lp's I finally found one I can't put down. My other guitars are gathering dust. My question regarding the neck is this:

What spec neck would you order from warmoth or another company to get as close to the feel of the R8 neck as possible? (My neck is just under 1" at the first to barely over 1" at the 12th). I know it won't sound or look the same, but I just wonder if anyone else has had success doing something similar. The neck would go on a lightweight pine tele body Marc Rutters made for me. I often travel for a couple months at a time and break this guitar down and put it in my luggage.

I'm mainly curious about which fret wire I would order, available profiles, and wood choice (likely rw over maple). Again, I'm not interested in making this tele sound like my R8, I just don't want to go months being disappointed every time I play the travel guitar I have because the neck is so different. Thanks for your input.

Wouldn't calling or emailing them get you the best answer ? Or ask for the specs of the neck you like . Such as (example) .910 @ the first .XXX @ the 5th .XXX @ the 12th. than have it shaped similar to the 1 you like . "C" , "D" , a slight"V" .

If you getting something custom made , get what you really like . Only you kow what you have or want in the feel of a neck Yes ?

You'll only know if it's right , after you get it in your hands ....and you've paid for it . Which is why many like a pre-built guitar .....You get to try it and see if you like it before buying . :hmm:

I agree with everything you said. I guess a better question would be, how do the warmoth fat back and boat neck profiles compare to an R8. I'm also not sure which frets would be closest. I know I could go with usacg, and still may, for a custom neck. The reason I'm leaning towards warmoth is that they have ready made necks available that are roasted maple. The price is much lower vs a custom made neck and the roasted maple is lighter and less sensitive to changes in climate, which helps me a lot because of how much I travel.

I figured someone on here may have a better idea, or could point me in the direction of another option. Thanks.

Boom

Warmoth Custom Guitar Parts - Back Contours

Fatback or Boat is going to be the closest to what you want. I have one and they are great.

I have bought 2 for sub $200 shipped on ebay.

Look into Allparts as well. I don't know if they have as many options but are supposed to be more cost effective. I was looking to do the same thing for my '52 AVRI Telecaster, but opted just to stay with original. I love fat necks too so I know what you're after. Good luck...

Have any of you tried a pre- finished allparts neck? I don't have time to finish one on my own. That was another reason I was leaning towards a roasted maple neck with rosewood fb. Just a little oil and it should be good.

I replace all my Fender's with Warmoth necks. I either buy the Boat or the '59 necks and I like both of them very much.

I get the Boat for strictly rhythm guitars and the '59 for the others.

I don't care for their Fatback neck personally.

I recently built a parts caster using a Warmouth body and their '59 Round neck with SS 6105 frets. I love the feel of both. I've been meaning to measure them to see if they are what Warmouth shows for specs. I got the compound radius board, which I love also.
I've never had an R8, so I can't compare them, but if anyone wants to send me one for an in depth comparo, I'm game!
The '59 round is a little beefier than my LP with a '50's neck. But I've always felt that my LP was on the small side of what a '50's neck should be.
