R8 neck thickness through the years?

I have an early 2000s R7 that has been my main guitar for a long time. I was looking at a new 2020 R8 and the neck is nowhere near as thick as my R7. Only slightly thicker than my V1 R0 (ie. 59).

For those that have seen many: how have R8 necks varied over the years. How far back would I have to go to get an R8 with a neck as big as my R7? Or is it just random?

My 08 R8 has one of the fattest necks I have played on a reissue & my 07 R9 is near identical.

My 2014 R8 had a .93(1st) and 1.1(12th), I'd call a chunky C. My 2015 TH8 has a .91 and 1.00 that I'd call a medium C. Gibson advertised the True Historic 58s and 59s as having same neck profile.
I had a 2013 R7 that had a .94 and I'd call that one a "baseball bat."

I believe in 2017, the R7, R8, R9 all got the same ’59 neck profile.

(I’ve played loads !) - ‘generally’ up to 2012 they’re quite big, then start getting slimmer 2014 on - my 2020 R8 I’d say is probably more towards a 59 (still slightly bigger) & nowhere near as big as a ‘real’ early 58 neck which is just a fat round c shape - I’d say 2005-2007 where the big neck years

My 2014 R8 is only slightly thinner than my 2004 R7 which is nice-n-fat.....and a bit larger than my R9. R0 players would hate my '14 R8 unless the like clubby necks,

My 2014 CC #28 is a R8 but the neck on it is a rounder and thinner than a average R9.

Pre 2012 the necks were bigger on all historics.
I like really fat necks and they're hard to find these days.

My 2018 R8 is .90 at the first and .98 at the twelfth.

I have a 14’? (I think) Wild Wood R8. Wayyyy chunkier than both of my R9’s. I love it! Have a 2014 R8 incoming, and I can update once I get to compare. R8’s can vary a ton. A lot of shops ordered custom runs of R8’s With 59 or 60 Nick profiles, as they were cheaper to order that way, and they could move them faster. It’s a bit of a crapshoot in my opinion

I’ve owned 4 R8s... 2014 x2, 2016, and 2018.

One of the 2014s was very stout (around .936 1st fret IIRC)... the other was slimmer, more in the .870 range. The 2016 was around .915 IIRC and the 2018 is .888.

For me a measurement of "thickness" does not tell the whole truth (and nothing but the truth). The shoulder is the rest of the story.
What I have found is R8's and R7's are often about the same thickness as an R9 but with a little more shoulder. A little more mass.

Then there's the Rs that have a deep rounded V with no shoulder whatsoever.

The Hot Mod R5s and '04 CR 6s I've owned had this neck.

Those are the beefy necks I like.

CR6 4016 was right at .98 @ the 1st. But there were no shoulders whatsoever. CR6 4008 was .95 @ the1st. Same story, no shoulders and a very comfortable soft V.

My TH R8 is .92 @ the 1st but again no shoulders and could easily be a R9 neck.

My '17 CR7 7001 is .89 @ the 1st and feels far larger than the TH R8.

The shoulders on CR7 7001 are very prominent.

Think deep U vs rounded V.

Mine is CR 4003. The neck on it is somewhere between an R9 and R0. It has the smallest profile of any historics I own.
Rounded neck with some shoulder...a lot like the 50's profile on STD's Great neck btw!
Ya never quite know what a neck is really going to be until held in your own hands!
