I know all Historics/VOS have different neck shapes but in general, when did the R8 start to be built slightly smaller than the R7? I have seen a few R8s that have less shoulder than my R7. I'm looking to get a new/used R8 and would like just a little less neck bulk.

Regardless of year, the neck sizes can be all over the map sometimes. You just have to try them out and find what's comfortable.

:hmm:

My '09 has a nice "C" profile and does not feel bulky in the least.

I have an R8 that feels identical to my R7 and a CR8 that feels like the R9s I've played. So go play 'em and see what you like.

If you are getting an R8 because they are cheaper than say an R9, then maybe consider a G0. The Guitar center R0 has the thinner neck but not the flamed top. The price is about the same as an R8.

I agree, a G0 seems like a good fit for you. Thinner neck, Historic quality+build, plaintop to keep the price down, and more color choices than R8s I think. New G0s are just getting into the Guitar Center near you!

My 09 R8 is absolute perfection, much better than my old R8 which was like a damn Louisville slugger! I'd compare the new ones to an R9 if anything.

I think it has more to do with the year they were built rather than the year they emulate... of course, the R0's will always be thinner, but I imagine they vary between build years as well.

My R8 from 09 has possibly the nicest neck i have ever palyed. Like LPV said a nice 'c' shape, no shoulders. My friend has a 01 R9 i play regularly and my R8 feels alot thinner, alot.

I played a R0 at GC last weekend and it was just like the Classic. Way too thin.

THe R7 I have now is fine I just want an R8 with a touch less shoulder. I don't have the luxury to shop around town. Nothing in stock anywhere in MI. Need to buy online. The R8s I have seen as of late had what I am looking for but I have only really seen a couple. Guess I have to roll the dice.

Anyone selling a darkburst with a nice neck?

Just to stay on topic... The neck is awesome. Not as thin as an R0, but super comfortable. About as thick as the average R9 in previous years. Nice C shape.
