I like the Tele!

That fiddle was on my w!sh list for more than a decade ...

an H. Gastelum 1999 build ... extremely rare as it was never listed
in the Custom Shop's catalogue ...

a 60ish Custom with a glistening rosewood slab-board

I bought it in the hope it had his sig somewhere ...
It d!d ... all three of my remaining Fenders have his touch .

were the strings on all in the same (condition) ?

Probably the most overlooked variable in tone, and most likely the most important.

They're made from wood so all will sound / react differently. Which part of the tree they were cut from. Higher up - less dense. Lower down - more dense with the weight of the tree above. Also higher up - less moisture.

Even been said that Flamed / Figured maple sounds different to Plain maple thus giving a slightly different tone. The figuring makes the top harder apparently.

I was also a Strat guy for so long until getting a C/S LP Historic. Now would never go back. The look / feel / tone of a Lester is perfect.

On the subject of R9 vs R8. When asked George Gruhn said the only difference is one has a more highly figured top. From my experience the R9s are a little lighter also. Worth the extra $$$$ up to the individual. But they are ALL GOOD

My 2010 R8 is by far my best playing guitar. The neck is my thickest, but is easy to play. The plaintop does not have much going on, but that is not as important as how is sounds..
