I have been playing for 30ys and after purchasing this R8, I finally now understand the difference between gibson usa and gibson custom shop guitars. I never thought there could be that big of a differnce, I WAS WRONG! I should have bought one of these ten years ago. I have been playing this through my 50 watt jcm 900 marshall into my 25 watt celestion greenback loaded 4x12. Last night I was able to get tones that ranged from Page, Clapton, Green, Bloomfield, Kossoff, Walsh, Felder, Gibbons, Perry and especially Duane Allman and Dickey Betts...it has given me an even greater appreciation of Duane's mastery of a Les Paul...the tones that you are able to get through volume manipulation and the combination between both pickups is AN OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCE!...to be able to produce these tones is MAGICAl! I can now say with certanity that I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCED!

I still don't own one :( however I've played a few R8's at the local shop. Very sweet is all I can say.

Yours will bring you great happiness, it is truly in a league of it's own. Historics sure do sound and play better than the U.S.A models IMO

It's nice to hear someone can get all those tones from an unmodded R8. I knew it was possible straight up.
