Quilt tops?

What happened to them and when was the last time Gibson offered them as part of the line up? At least 15 years ago Epiphone used to offer them as a regular.

I'm a big fan of the light hybrid quilt/flame combo.

Quilt sets are rarer than flames or even birdseyes. You need several hundred sets for a run. I am sure Gibson has them, but holds them back for M2M orders, i am sure.

Non-veneer quilts are expensive and a bit more difficult to source.

A veneer (usually about 1/16th") is far easier to book match and it usually looks better than a quilt top that's book matched and then carved. The best quilt tops usually come from smaller manufacturers/builders like Nik Huber and Carvin (now Kiesel). It's unlikely that Gibson would be able to offer decent quality quilt in production numbers.

I paid a crapload for one from warmoth

wish Gibson still made them available new

its So fun to bring out the quilt by hand though…I think this had 35 layers of nitro by the end…and 6 different stain colors iirc

Quilt is Western bigleaf and not eastern hard maple. So the purists don't want to see it on Les Paul's typically. As much of anything beyond a Standard is aimed toward accuracy to the 50s then flame would only be used for normal runs.
A similar thread just weeks back prompted horror and scorn on the historics section for asking the same question.
