Hi Again - I have found a pristine 25/50 Anniversary LP in Tobacco burst from a gentleman who is the original owner that bought it in 1980. Not a scratch on it other than a few on the pickguard. Not even a single scratch on the back of it. 100% original under the bed closet queen. He still even has the belt buckle that came with it when you sent in the warranty card. Yes I am asking him to include the buckle in purchase. Is that buckle worth anything?

Question:

All 25/50s were made in Gibson's Kalamazoo plant. The regular 8 digit serial number in "YDDDYSSS" format was used on the 25/50 (where "YY" is the year, "DDD" is the day of the year, and "SSS" is the production sequence number, with numbers below 500 used at Kalamazoo). In addition, the 25/50 has a four digit edition number, which presumably gave it that "limited edition" marketing image. The "Made in USA" stamp is also on the back of the headstock.

The 25/50 was considered a "special order" guitar, and Gibson ads suggested that all orders had to be completed by December 31, 1978.

The one I am buying the serial number is : 70509073 four digit 2364

By this information wouldn't this make it a 1979 model?

Is something wrong did they make them in 79?

I am finalizing deal tonight. Any help would be appreciated.

Pic tease:

Think about it--If they took orders up until Dec of 78, they had to make some in 79----

If you meant that the ad says that all guitars must be manufactured by no later than 21-31-78, well, when has any company met all their deadlines--

I suggest you get with Gibson---

It looks legit and I always thought these were cool---

You're right Blues. For some reason I always had in my mind they were made for 1 year only in 1978. Maybe I am confusing orders date with production.

Yeah I agree with Blues. They'd take orders and THEN finish making them.
I'd say you're safe.

Ok...I just found a couple that were made in 1979.

Frig I am paranoid. Hate buying LP's outside of this forum that are 1000 miles away. I'm a mess.

I've seen quite a few made in '79, no worries there. Feb of '79 is very reasonable. The buckle? Rare as hen's teeth. Most never go with the guitars. Keeping it with the guitar will get you more $, if you ever decide to sell. Is that the one that sold with a buy it now on eBay yesterday? If it was, that's a smoking deal. Whichever, it's a great looking guitar. Congrats!

Hey JT I found the guitar in Amish country of all places. An obscure little ad.

I don't think the belt buckle he received from Gibson is the 25/50 like I hoped. The ones I have seen have 25/50 on the front. Maybe they ran out of the 25/50 and sent him this one. He is as honest as they come so I don't doubt that is what Gibson sent him but I don't think he got the buckle he was supposed to. Here is pic. Too bad. I am going to have to find one now. Unless the epxerts tell me they came in this form too, but I doubt it.

An email to Gibson would do you no harm at all.:thumb:
