My VOS R8 has more shine then my Gloss R7 - after Gibson Pump Polish and Plant Waves Carnuba Wax.

I gotta say I prefer the VOS to the shinier version - particularly with older-looking hardware...

+1 I think it's ironic that it costs $300 less instead of more. :hmm:

I polished out the VOS gunk on my R8 with Gibson Polish in the Orange spray bottle.
Although not as shiney as a 'Gloss' model it's pretty close.

Here is a pic shined up.

Good job, it looks great! Other polishes I've used or have heard feedback about, include Meguires car polishes and Virtuoso.

No matter how much you polish, they will never be quite 100% as shiny as gloss, but you also save $300 on the cost of a new one going VOS!

Exactly. And really does it need to be any shinier than that? It's not going off to boot camp.

Everyone's got their preference, but I really like the VOS once it is cleaned up and polished.

Remember how many people prior to VOS that wanted to get their new shiny guitars to age quickly, like a pair of faded bluejeans? Well Gibson has done this with the VOS series, and now some people want to go the other route, lol!

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

But really, I like the worn in look - it seems to fit the vintage styled instruments well.

Yeah, I was kind of joking around there. I completely understand people wanting their guitars to look shiny. I hate dents. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Personally, I've always though a little less shiny looks a lot better, even without any aged hardware. And I'm happy to pay $300 less.

Any one know whether Gibson has been shipping any 2009 model '58 reissues in gloss finish? Or are they only available as VOS?

Before I bought my 2008 model last month I narrowed it down to five '58 VOS and a $300shiny upgrade version, all of those were here in the UK and all 2008 serial numbers. Every '58 VOS I enquired about each had a 2008 serial number. None had 2009 serials. I enquired approx 15 '58s over the internet.

Hope it helps!
