I picked up a '96 MiK Gold Top this week. It played great, and sounded good. I also have a 2008 MIC plaintop that has a cracked neck in multiple locations. I had previously upgraded the '08 with new pups, pots, and caps. I swapped the upgrades into the Gold Top and I noticed a few things.
1. I didn't have to sand the pot holes to fit the CTS pots. Were the pots on '96 already a larger size, or did the PO sand them? The odd thing is the electronics look almost stock. Which leads me to...
2. The git had Orange Drop caps with modern wiring. Were Orange Drops standard for the '96 Gold Tops?
3. I'd like to upgrade the bridge and tailpeice. What size should I get? English (Gibson) or Metric (Epi)?
4. For the life of me I can't find a set gold bell knobs with a chrome insert I'm sure will fit CTS pots. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help!

If the pot holes are 3/8 " rather than 5/16" then somebody has already enlarged them.

Epi has never used orange drops caps that I know of except on certain Slash Tributes.

Bridge and tailpiece should be metric. See stewmac 1511 series.

Gold Knobs with inserts can be bought at many dealers. Try Guitar Parts Resource.

SJM, as always, you rock. The bridge and tailpiece are ordered, and the same will go for the knobs in a few minutes.

Thanks for the help!
