Is there any way I can find out what his ISP is with only knowing his email?

Actually, this was the question.

Amongst the "must know IP" and "Check the header" answers, I thought I'd state the obvious, as it related to Comcast.

For the record, I am TRULY sorry I tried to clarify, and will not likely make that mistake again.

Good luck!

yea, that was the question. I only know his email, and wanted to find out what his ISP was. I thought maybe someone knew a way to do that, since MLP is chocked full of incredibly intelligent people in all different fields, all brought together by a common love for the guitar.

I didn't, however, ask for some smart-ass new guy to come and try to insult me with a sad attempt at sarcasm. I'm sorry I didn't clarify, but I'll likely not make that mistake again.

It was through Gmail. If it was "@comcast.net" I wouldn't have even posted this thread. That's common sense..

Not smart ass in the least.

Troubleshooting begins at the physical layer, and you eliminate the most obvious first.

Now... had the response been "already checked that", I might have taught you how to track down the IP using the header info, and then how to find out which ISP that address pool had been assigned to. Heck, if you'd been nice, I might have even done it for ya!

Instead, I'm wasting my time arguing with someone who has no clue. Still.

But as I said... not likely to do that again, or anymore.

Thanks dynadude! I got that, but I'm not sure everyone knows what a POP account is, so I started at square one....

Actually, troubleshooting begins with understanding what the customer is having a problem with. You assumed it was one thing when in fact it was something different.

In the open he stated he wanted to know what the ISP was. Your response jumped to the track of what his email carrier was.

No sir, my response was to check the domain the email came from, as it is the easiest to check. You keep missing that point. It's pretty straigh forward so I'm not sure where I'm losing you.

Again, a simple "I already checked that" would have sufficed. Instead, I get cranial rectal inversions and a metric shit-ton of douchebaggery.

I don't follow. What authority is it you're asserting that you have?

If I ever start to give a crap that I'm on someones ignore list is the day I shoot myself. Not in the head, but like in my hand or leg...just to wake myself up.
