So apparently in the Chicagoland/NW Indy area, anyone who has Comcast as their internet provider has no internet today.

This coincides with me emailing my teacher 5 times today about homework due electronically at 11:59 pm.

He hasn't responded, and I'm wondering if its because he has comcast.

Is there any way I can find out what his ISP is with only knowing his email?

Hardly, unless he has a POP account.

I'm on comcast with the same problem. As is my neighbor (thank you undecided wifi). Unless you can get his IP, you're pretty well stuck. If you have an email from him, you may be able to find out from the header info.

Nope, nothing. This is someone who helps me consistently via email through one of the hardest classes I've ever taken, so I was at one point worried he was either ignoring me, or something happened.

Oh well. Maybe I can play up some excuse... and blame comcast :laugh2:

Text him, maybe. Comcast has something like 70% of the market in our area so he's probly on it.

Well, if his email was "reallysmartdude@comcast.net" that might be a clue.

Just sayin'

His email would probably be through the school, don't cha think?

And no, there's really no way of knowing if he's on Comcast, which SUCKS.

Having never seen it, I wouldn't know.

However, the question was "is there anyway to tell if his email is comcast"

That would be a way....

Not really, Chan. The question was if there was a way to tell if he were on Comcast. For example, my email is through Gmail but my ISP is Comcast. If I used a desktop email client, it would attach header information to the message that could be used to find the IP address. IP ranges are bought by isp's and that info can easily be found.

Since I use Gmail through the web client though, it add header info from google and tells you nothing about where it actually originates. Messages sent by my phone, otoh, do have some of that info. It would tell you that. T-Mobile sent it.

Not the question at all :laugh2:

I've heard about this old-world technology that is still around. They call it "telephone". You can call someone and actually hear their voice.

Do the homework to the best of your ability and understanding. If you do something wrong and there's a problem, your teacher is still going to get those emails when his service goes back up so, hopefully, he'll understand the situation.

I see.

So, you're saying that having an email with the @comcast.net does not in anyway indicate they have comcast.

'cause that IS what I'm saying.

So, since I'm wrong and all.... how do I get an email address from comcast, even if they are not my ISP.

Educate me, 'cause I thought they had to be your provider....

Unlike Gmail, or Hotmail, or Yahoo mail.

And to top it off, your sent message will have the timestamp when it was sent, not only when it was received by him.

Who is this in response to?

Anyone who thinks that having an email address from @comcast.net does not indicate that the ISP is, in fact, Comcast, and can then explain to me how one gets an email from that provider's domain without actually having them as an ISP.

Apparently, that would be you, amongst others.

All I said was... if the email address says @comcast.net, that would be an indicator.

I keep being told I'm wrong....

I never said anything about any other domains or providers.

Comcast's main DNS went down in IL, IN, MN, MI last night. There are tons of new stories about it, so just email your teacher and tell them why it was late. They are giving out coupons for their service being down as well.

But FYI, mine went back up around 11:40 pm central time.

For future reference you can always change your DNS to Google's or OpenDNS, or something similar. It's very easy.

Yes, today he told us it was because he had comcast and he was somewhat sympathetic. Half credit for the problems I emailed him about, if I do them tonight.

And his email doesn't end in @comcast.net.... I wouldn't have asked for help, if it did.
