Please explain this to me. Why do these animals need to be killed?

World News - 33 whales stranded again off New Zealand, to be killed

I don't understand why they can't just put a rope on them and help them out to sea? Why the Mass suicide? Just seems like a huge waste . I know these people/volunters wouldn't do it unless absolutely necessary but I don't understand why it is.

Sorry for the ignorance............:(

That's like tying a rope around an SUV and pulling it into the sea. There is a difference there.

Whats an SVU? :hmm: Isn't that a cop show or something?

My Question is why can't these animals be saved?

I meant SUV. I'm not exactly sure where the problem lies, but there is more than just tying a rope around them and putting them in the sea.

I'm not ignorant. Your question asked why they can't just pull them into the sea. You can't do that. I don't really know what they could do to be honest.

ME. I"M TALKING ABOUT ME. I'm the dumb ignorant one in the conversation. ME. How dumb and ignorant do you need to be to not see that? :laugh2:

I don't get it and I'm just asking someone who knows.......(Bones does this for a living) why.

They are too heavy to just tow them back into sea. Its a huge job to get just one of them back into sea.
There is a reason whales wash up on the beach. Usually they are already weakened, healthy whales hardly ever end up on the beach.
The whales are disorientated. If you manage to get them back into the water, they usually end up back on the beach the same day.

Its unlikely for them to survive, so they just end their suffering

I know I've also read that it is tough to keep them alive while resources are put together to get them into the sea. And that was with 1 so I imagine 33 would be a logistic nightmare and require a ton of manpower

While we are at it, why don't we move all the starving africans to Kansas where they will be able to grow wheat and support themselves.

Everyone knows that it's far easier to send a space craft to the moon in the 1960's then it is, in 2012, to move a small pilot whale back into the ocean from where it came.

This. The clincher is that they keep doing it. They're not going to get better.

Why isn't the clincher that the people made only one attempt and it sounded as if they didn't take them out far enough.

The article made it sound as if the area creates a "trap" that causes the whales to not be able to navigate out of. So it's not necessarily that there is something wrong with the whales but that they got trapped. No?

What ever the reason if its gonna keep happening there comes a point when it's not fiscally responsible. And before anybody asks if you can put a price on life my response is that there already is one.
