I had seen something about this last year, after the second raid. The conflict of interest permitted in allowing HJ to sit on their board, and donate to their treasury, would seem to be a credibility-killer to me ... but I'm not in the industry.
IMO, a guitar is the sum of its parts, not just the woods used. Sure, woods have an influence of how a guitar responds and sounds, but wood is not the Alpha and Omega when it comes to a good guitar. I have guitars made out of various types of wood (and one that is a mostly hollow "solid body") and they all perform great and have their own personalities. Okay, if you want a Les Paul and your idea of what makes up a Les Paul is "this, this and this" and nothing else will meet your expectations, then don't settle for anything different. But, if you're willing to experiment for the sake of finding a good guitar, then try something a little different and keep your eyes closed while you do it (Kinky, eh?).
