If i'm dropping £2k on a guitar, I'm surprised that it's less playable, out of the box, than my £300 Ibanez. As someone else has posted, you have to be careful even with an open D.

I will either get used to it or fix it, but I expect better

When a different brand guitar that costs 4x less doesn't have these problems, one would think that this wouldn't even be an issue as far as Gibson is concerned.

Not so much a whiner, just stating facts about the rubbish that Gibson sell. And i'm not the only one who has had this problem.

Technique may be a contributing factor. Try fretting closer to the fret.

Unfortunately, this is an issue with recent Gibson guitars.

I recently purchased a 2008 Standard (manufactured 2012) which had this exact problem. Gibson did a real bad fret/plek job...couldn't stand the high E rolling off the frets...the frets were rounded off way to much...had to return the guitar to the online retailer. Tried a 2012 standard at my local GC...same problem. No issue in the trads I tried.

Anyhow, I bought a 2012 standard (at risk) from an online retailer and fortunately it does not have the issue.

My Epi's do not have this issue, nor my GO (2009).

....my advise......Return it!

Do you really believe that's the answer.

It's one possiblity. Regardless of how aggressive I do hammers and pull offs my E string never ends up that far off the fretboard.

I'm sure that modifying the way I play will help alleviate the issue. However, this has never happened with any other guitar I've played.

It has nothing to do with the way you play, it is that guitar.

I've been playing for 35 years, two Gibsons in that time were unplayable.

Do you think after 35 years I can't play an open "D" chord on a regular guitar?

Seriously, I could play a "D" chord or hammer on those guitars, but not without concentrating, it at least always had me thinking about it.

Agreed. I havetn classed mine as unplayable. It's an annoyance though

100% correct it's so obvious Stevie wonder could see it but jmb 1984 can't. Was 1984 the last time you had an eye test.

No, you are just convinced that Gibson has QC issues and have even posted elsewhere that you won't be buying one again. It is just obvious in your mere 23 posts here that your agenda so far has been to bash Gibson, whine, and so far add nothing positive to the forum. This is a Les Paul appreciation forum not a bash Gibson forum. I am not sure why you are even on MLP if you not going to be a positive contributing member.

Regardless of any gap issues, if you can't handle the sound advice that has been given here from multiple members here, the FACTS that there are other factors that can contribute to this issue, which are: nut slot issues, bridge slot issues, and technique causing the strings to go off the board in the first place, then maybe your just too sensitive for Gibson and MLP.
