Can someone with some PRS experience explain the differences between these two guitars? From my understanding, the Modern Eagle is more versatile and McCarty is more a les paul type of PRS?

I've never played a ME, but I have a DC594 and a SC594, and they're similar to LP types of guitars.
IIRC, Paul was going for a '59 LP feel when he created the 594.

The 594 is pretty versatile, as it has coil taps, but I would venture to say the ME is probably more versatile as it has a 5-way switch, and another 3 mini switches (that I have no idea what they do).

The idea of the McCarty as far as I know is to make a guitar slightly thicker, as Gibson Les Paul itself, that will have a deeper sound. So, a more Les Paul-esque sound tan a regular PRS, that has a sound of its own.

It depends on what you prefer I guess. PRS is more articulate and versatile, has a place in everything basically, Gibson is deeper, great in the hard rock area or jazz area too. Both things are good, just think what tyou prefer.

I barely qualify to post an opinion. But having played both, I think the McCarty does have more of a classic feel/sound than other PRS's.

PRS guitars have their own sound and feel. The McCarty bridges the gap between that PRS vibe and classic guitars. Honestly, if I bought a PRS it would probably be a McCarty. But that's just my preference.
