Aehm...

I don´t get what you´re complaining about.

The logo is on top of the clearcoat, and has been for years. On all PRS except where it is inlayed with paua or abalone.

Fender Customshops have the Fender decals above the headstock paint.
Gibsons have silkscreened "Les Paul" above the paint.

So your criticism is not fair IMO.

Be glad they send you an original "P" to replace it. Just try and ask Gibson and Fender if they would do something similar.

PRS makes quality Instruments that are very well worth the price you pay for them - especially if you compare them to similar priced Fenders and Gibsons.
You cannot honestly say that " Gibson seems to be made better"---- Even my Customshop Gibson Reissues are a QC nightmare compared to my PRS guitars

Ah no, Fender does not apply the waterslide to a finished headstock. And everywhere you ask, they'll tell you the very same thing. You do that, and that waterslide is a gonner even if you sand with 800 grit.

So...

Also clearcoating makes the waterslide edges "disappear" when you level the finish, if you do it right.

That's how they do it, a bit more than applying a sticker. However, if the finish was already messed up, chances are somebody scratched all the way down to the silk screened logo, not good.

After he gets his P back, would it be advisable to shoot some clearcoat over the logo?

First, I don't know why PRS would ship just a "P" instead of the entire logo. Must be some reason related to protecting the brand or something. Makes it kinda difficult to apply it correctly, the logo's a script, so...

Anyway, the tricky part here is making the P blend in with the other stuff. If you don't do it right, it'll look worse.

So, I'd carefuly sand the headstock until there's no more shiny spots and then apply the "P" and then clearcoat the entire thing.

FYI: PRS won't send out a complete headstock logo, for fear of enabling a fake. There are guitars out there that have been pieced together from dumpster-diving at the factory. PRS doesn't want their name on them.

As far as applying the 'P' goes, call customer service and ask for Shawn. He can tell you the best process for putting it on. Good luck!

I can understand that, but maybe the factory should shred defective pieces, that way all the "divers" could get is some landscaping material! :D

I wasn't gonna say this but I have to. PRS is one of the names I think of when people talk about quality and understanding what a musician wants. I don't know but they could even fix that for you if you paid for shipping both ways, just an idea but I don't think they'll leave you hanging and ship you a sticker without at least giving you some guidance on how to go about it.

They destroy the wood now, but in the past a lot of bodies and necks were recovered from the dumpsters after being bandsawed. Landscaping material --lol-- I should see if I can get some wood chips for my vegetable garden (just so I can talk about the tone of my tomatoes). :thumb:

The PTC could definitely fix the logo, or re-face the headstock and put on a new one, should the OP want to ship it to Stevensville, MD. Otherwise, like I said, just call and ask for Shawn - I'm sure he'll tell you what to do.

You right its a well made guitar and for the price it beats out NON USA ESP or an IBANEZ, or Jackson.

It has a few dings in and I wish I could fix but prs finishes (from what I have been told by luthers) are much harder to fix than les pauls.

Its best to leave it alone as fixing it can make it worse.
Something to do with the finishes

Its a rare feeling that a company would be so supportive.
I made the mistake of cleaning it off.
With just an email they sent me the P no hassles... no serial number verifacation... or something stupid like that and not charge me for shipping or other fees. No dialing # then 3 then some dude in india asking how my day is and if I'd be interested in buying insurance for the prs then transfering me to someone who can help then I just end up in a voice mail.
