Hello Everyone, I have been away for the last few months and my return is not exactly on my own terms. I have been very busy with hockey this year. After a 17 year hiatus (due to a town achilles tendon and other ligament / muscle damage during game) Unfortunately I severely pulled a groin during this week at the rink and now i'm basically sidelined for 2-3 months.

My personal guitar build is on hold until the weather improves, but I have another project for someone else who would take on the challenge.

the project -

I picked up an old Fretlight guitar a couple years ago out of curiosity more than anything, however it was damaged during shipping. This is an acoustic electric (very similar to a Kramer Ferrington) that is fully functional with software and the fretboard that lights up.

the damage is two fold (picture will be added tonight) the strap peg at the bottom of the instrument was pushed into the body, damaging the wood. I also noticed the bridge is lifting slightly. Now there was no insurance on this guitar, and the short story is that the seller refused to take the instrument back and did not offer insurance initially. So I have one too many guitars.

My proposition is that I will give this instrument to anyone who wants to take the challenge on to fix it, and I would like the guitar to go to someone who can not afford to learn or own an instrument of their own. The reward would be the appreciation of the person you hand this to. Here is the catch - there is no case and shipping would probably be $50. I could throw this in a recycle bin, but i wanted to see if anyone would be interested in the project and making someone else realize the joy of guitar playing.

It took me years to buy my first guitar, and i actually had to sell my own bed to buy it. Sleeping on the floor for a few months was not fun, but I couldn't have had a bigger smile holding my guitar. I would never wish that on anyone else who is driven to learn.

I will post images of the guitar and the damage, I would like to hear who may be interested.

Stay tuned for pictures.

There is just something I can't put my finger on about gifting a musical instrument. You have my respect.

Duuuude... I can feel nothing but respect towards your attitude right here, right now. An aged MTB'er on hiatus is calling =)
So, a pulled groin is not something unfamiliar to me. On ice with no spikey tires - it was a common ouch... as painful as f***.

I've read through the project description, and I tell you this. I've been planning for a good giveaway of my two first axes (in fact, I've been declaring this action for a good couple of years), yet I feel attached to my first scratch build. My kit build (the very #1 for me) goes to an orphanage with a music major FOR SURE (yes, we have those), and I'd be glad to add your project axe to the load, as kids are very envious to get a single axe for a whole community.

I can not promise anything before I see some pics, and I can not promise anything fast pacing.

PM me, and if I can pull the repair, I'm in. And I'll pay the delivery.

Cheers,
Victor.

Well you can see from the images that the strap peg more than likely hit the ground and flexed the body to the point where it shattered the finish and more than likely cause some pressure tearing in the wood.

Like I mentioned I have a ton of software and the cable for the guitar and it will make an excellent gift to a less fortunate person. i am going to try and find a guitar shipper box for this around town. U-Line makes ones that work great but are pretty expensive

And if VictOr358 is going to take this on in order to pass it along to a charity I will do my part. Let me know if you need U.S. sourced parts or finishing material, Victor, and I will furnish them. Just PM me with the shopping list and your mailing address. The only way the world gets better is if we take action. This is just paying it forward.

Guitarsmith, I'm in.
I'm sorta scared, but I'm in :dude:

This will be a new (acoustic) experience for me, but I'll do my best.
The damage I can see on the pictures is not that scary... So far =) I'm concerned about the lifting bridge. And it looks like it's a complete refinish. Anyway, I'll make a full damage report as soon as I meet this axe in person.

There are several specialty schools for socially supported families, as well as orphanages and youth rehabilitation centers. If I'll manage to complete the project successfully, I'll post a list of these institutions and we'll choose one altogether. Well, not IF, my first kit build goes to charity anyway.

I would like to point one thing though, this will not be a fast pacing project, I can make my bass wait for more, but my friend still awaits for his double cut. I'll be sharing the labor time between those two, but I must keep all of my promises. I'll be sharing the pictures of the process, the giveaway and (if my favorite Russian guitarist virtuoso will agree) we'll have a test run, taped.

And if VictOr358 is going to take this on in order to pass it along to a charity I will do my part. Let me know if you need U.S. sourced parts or finishing material, Victor, and I will furnish them. Billy, thank you very much for your generous offer! I'm well set with chemicals, abrasives and tools, and I can source pretty much everything in Moscow. But I will gladly accept advises and howto's! :thumb::dude:

I have to apologize I have been swamped at work. Everything is ready to go - I just need a shipping box. This may take me a bit of time due to just being overwhelmed with work and moving the office I am in to a new location. I will make sure this happens, it just may take a bit longer than I anticipated.

Please take your time, I'm at a new job myself, will not be able to start before May :)

Billy has already said this, but I'll add my two kopeks. Should any parts be needed from sunny Tokyo, drop me a line and I'll happily see what I can dig up. There's a lot of good stuff here, and I also have a reasonable number of spare parts that I'm always willing to pass on to a good cause.

Thank you, Master B., but not before I send you that spool of wire, which I still happen to remember about
