I know many of you think these questions are trivial, but I genuinely want to know. I have a very expensive musical instrument and don't know anyone else locally that has a guitar. So you are my only source of information, basically. Thank you.

How did you pick up your "NOT very expensive musical instrument" before getthing the "very expensive musical instrument"? It's pretty much the same

Squire Infinity Tele definitely gets picked up higher on the neck.
I'm pretty sure i've rocked a 2nd fret at some point.

Overly cautious is better every day than reckless. But enjoy your guitar, you won’t break it with regular use.

I know, but my LP custom is really heavy and the neck is really skinny near the headstock. I know pulling it straight up is fine, but I'm certain it could snap the angle is too big, say when you pull it from a case thats on the floor. I'd be up for testing that out for sure if it were a $100 guitar but not my gibby.
It's not like lifting it at the 5th fret is any added effort opposed to lifting it at the first fret so why not?

The string tension on the neck of the guitar is far greater then any potential stress from lifting it by the neck. There’s no chance of any damage.

+1
Something like 120lbs of tension, and probably 30lbs difference between 8's and 12's.
The 5-10 added lifting it out of the case is nothing.

I wouldn't lift it by the tip of the HS, but at the nut is just fine.
The neck is close to 1" by 2" at the nut, with a steel rod down the center.
Your house is supported by 2x4s and your kitchen cabinets made from 1x2s are heavier than your Les Paul.
