This link was posted in Backstage but I'm sure many members here don't read that section so I thought I'd share it here also. Sure, it's not a LP but seeing Prince rocking an Epiphone on national television should put to rest the question of whether Epis are 'professional' enough to gig with. :D

He was playing an Epiphone so he could throw it at the end without caring.

He always throws his guitars at the end of a song. You should watch him more playing live before commenting.

Anywho, any love for us in Europe? NBC won't let us watch it here :p

That sucks that you can't watch the vid over there. He's playing an Epi Wilshire and getting great tones out of it too.

Edit: My mistake. Wilshire was not the correct model. It still sounded damn good though.

I honestly didn't like him that much at first. But when I watched "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Man, his solo was just amazing !
Oh, and he throws his Tele at the end... :hmm:

It looks like he's playing a 1961 or 62 Crestwood...unless he had one of the reissues repainted and replaced the tremolo with a stopbar. Also, it looks like the mini-hum at the bridge was replaced with a humbucker.

I was surprised that the vids worked for me here in Canada. I tried to watch the video of the entire show, along with a few others, and it told me that it was not available in my country. But for some reason the Prince vids work.

If someone can't watch the vid, you can always try going through one of the many free VPN or proxy sites out there.

Crestwood, actually. It has the pearl oval inlays and the deco oval inlay on the headstock. The Wilshire had dot inlays and nothing on the headstock. Also, a Wilshire of that age and design would have P-90s instead of mini-humbuckers. I'm wondering if its an original or a modifed/customized reissue.

It's a 1961 Epiphone Crestwood and it belongs to Kirk Douglas from the Roots, Fallons house band.

Prince saw it and asked if he could play it on the show and Kirk obliged...then Prince busted it up and Kirk wasn't happy! Major A-Hole move on Princes part!

WOW! Well, if Prince ever asks if he can use one of MY Gits, at least I know what my answer will be.

I'm sure that's going to happen BTW. :laugh2:

You think he'd be nicer to someone else's guitar. But I suppose not. :laugh2:

CaptainK is a little bit more nonchalant than I would be about Prince destroying my axe :wow:

You can see by the headstock at about :42 that the one on Fallon's show is a reissue.

eta: I went back and looked closer -- I was wrong. Apologies for going off half-cocked.

Whether it was vintage or a reissue, it's shitty that he felt he had to throw it down.

I'm sure his management team reimbursed Mr. Douglas, but it's still a shame that a guitar had to be maimed for Po-rintze to feed his midget complex.

Nice band tho'...

Well, yeah, treating a guitar like shit is shitty, but the one in the video has the clipped-corners of a modern headstock.
