I collected them as a kid. I had a pretty cool collection, but stopped when postcards started changing shape, getting weird edges, and especially putting the name of where you are on the postcard front!!

Who needs to be told your are writing a postcard from Paris with the Eiffel Tower on the front, or the Grand Canyon smashed over a picture of what is obviously the Grand Canyon. Horrible, horrible graphic design! Sad.

Fast forward, a while back I joined a site in which you exchange post cards from random people all over the globe. It's cool to get something in the mail that is not a bill or junk mail! So far very few with names plastered on the front.

I'm putting them on my wall. For now.

But if you post them with the writing showing you can't see the picture.
If you post them with the picture showing you can't see the writing...
:hmm:

I am deeply puzzled.
Are you?

P.S.: FWIW, I was never able to throw away a postcard!
I got little piles here and there in boxes..!

I have a bunch of business cards hung on a wall like that. They're not nearly as pretty, but there's a story behind each one, nonetheless.

This thread reminded me of this song:

A Letter From St. Paul

This song is by The Silencers and appears on the album A Letter From St. Paul (1987).

I'm glad you're still here on Earth
For a while I didn't know what to think, darling
This is what I look like now
Me and the boy of my dreams
It's a nice photo, he has a girl
But I'm going to bump her off soon
Oh, I have a big surprise
I'm coming to London, possibly this summer

I'd love to spend some time with you
I'd love to spend some time with you

I hear things are outrageously priced in London
Is that true?
Anyway, I'm still at school in Minneapolis
Studying theatre, oh, what fun it is
Everybody seems to be the same here
There's no happy medium, no way to go but up
Please send me a postcard, I collect them

In college, the cafeteria had individual containers of cereal with paper tops that you pulled off to open it. I collected those to remember all the cereal I ate.

I have a few post cards that were written during WW11 from Europe to relatives in the United States.
They used every inch of the postcard telling the latest family news from Europe.

Not my family though.

have a bunch of 1900-era postcards written by various people in my family.strange to read them some 100 years later and discover they talked about the same mundane stuff we do.well, except for the innerwebs, selfies, and 65 inch TV sets...
