In preparation of my straight grained Goldtop arriving, thought i‘d ask for a shout out of your historics backside. To kick of the thread here’s the Goldtops I looked at before picking out the one I have arriving soon. Looking through the beauty of the burst, the majority of the guitars in that book are biased towards a straight grain. which I know is not specifically interesting, but an interesting exercise for me to see what the bias is with the reissues.

This looked quite similar to my R0. Although mines kinda ‘blurry’ in look, possibly due to whoever painted literally troweling the analine dye onto the back and sides. I have used gibsons pump polish and the amount of colour it lifted was way more than is normal. But at least you can see the grain now.

Is a straight grain because it's from a bigger tree and so no growith rings or is it the way it was cut?

hey all, thanks for playing along. Some great looking backs there guys. (i know how sad am I?). to be fair not a dud looking one amongst them, some of the wood used in last couple of years has some odd looks to it. I see none of that in these pics though.

Beautiful slabs on this page guys.

I really wanted to introduce myself properly in (old) NGD, but couldn't skip this thread.
This is '06 R4 once owned by old forum member (from this and other forum) that i acquired last summer.
Love quartersawn & flames on this back, although i didn't have natural light for better pictures.

Honestly, I love my 2017 R8 but the back color is horrendous.
