I had one of those as well..

Gigged it for 2 and a half years and stupidly traded it for a Historic SG, which was one of the worse Gibsons I've EVER owned..

Just picked my 2011 up from LPCollector here on the forum. He replaced the stock pickups with a pair of Straightjackets.

...and these aren't quite Explorers but they're very similar.

'98 Korina Epiphone with hardware/electronic upgrades, '93 with EMGs (White), '07 stock (Ebony). I have had the Epi for about 12 years and just added the White and Ebony ones in the past couple of weeks.
Good range of tones among the three.

Iv had the standard for a while but Iv always wanted a walnut brown faded. Saw a good deal on reverb and had to snag it. I'm going to swap to black hardware and EMG 81/85, it will be my main C standard guitar

I LOOOOOOOVE Explorers, but unfortunately every one I have ever owned ended up getting sold because I just couldn't get along with them. They always ended up feeling so uncomfortable to play.

Same here. I just couldn't bond with the body shape, but I love to look at them.

I've slowly been fixing up this 1990 Explorer. I bought it cheap because it needed a lot of work. It is now my favourite guitar. It had no pickups installed when I got it. The truss rod nut was rounded off. The back control cover was missing. The pickguard is not original and didn't fit very well. The wiring was a mess. In this picture it has a pair of Gibson 490R/490T from a 2013 SGJ installed. I've since installed a pair of Sigil Bluesman Chicago '68 pickups. The major items affecting playability have been fixed. I think this is as far as I'm going to fix this guitar up. It is an awesome blues/rock guitar. The headstock has been refinished at some point. The route was expanded to include a mini toggle switch. the back has some severe buckle rash. It looks like it was a real working guitar at some point. The natural relic is all part of the mojo.

I remember seeing these Designer Series for the first time in my Guitar FPM magazines from mid 80s, wanted one ever since. Don't know why I didn't go out and buy one back then. That particular splash pattern is my fave ! I still want one...but I guess it's "the one that got away". ...oh well. Nice axe !!!
