Hi all,

Contemplating a purchase of a simple amp to get the best tone without pedals etc from my single coiled guitars (cs strat and avri 64 tele) . I'm going to use this for practise and as a stereo pair from my Mesa Lss.

Played one today and was blown away.

Can anyone who bought one please let me know what came in the box. My local retailer binned the carton and there was a manual, footswitch and cover.

Reason I ask is that when there we unboxed a 65 Princeton. There was a couple of envelopes etc in the back of the amp and some other paraphernalia.

Anyone get one that was box fresh ? If so what has the retainer "lost"?

I like to keep everything as new and see it as part of the package to facilitate later onward sales.

A manual and a footswitch is all you really need, besides warranty info.
Are you talking about the 65 reissue or the 68 custom? They're different amps. The 68 is t a reissue, technically.

Nobody at a later date is gonna care about a few missing envelopes, regarding resale. These are mass-produced amps.
Now, if you had an original, still in the box, that would be a whole 'nuther story, but Six Gun probably already owns all those. ;)

Yep it's the Princeton 68 reverb. I thought it was described as a reissue.

I know that the value of bumpf is zilch but before purchase if like to understand what they are. For example my avri 64 tele came with a lot of crapola but in that crapola is a 60s mod wiring kit. (It's a capacitor).

Just want to know what I'm losing out on. If it's just the usual paper spiel then I'm ok with not having it.

I can't help you with the box's original materials, but I can tell you that your Strat and Tele will thank you for this purchase.

My previous Swart Space Tone and my current Atomic Jr. were based on the Princeton model. Man my Strat, Tele, and LP (P-90's) sing thru my amps!

68 CPR is a great sounding amp. I A/B'd one with my vintage PR and both amps sounded great.

You may still need a Tubescreamer type pedal for lower volume overdrive with the amp. Not a bad thing.

A tube screamer you say?...... I've just finished wiring up my pedaltrain 24 and Es-8 with 7 overdrive pedals on it lol.... But I don't have a TS.... *wee devil face** ;-p

I think I'll just order the Princeton online. It'll come box fresh that way most likely.

With all my Fender amps, for SRV tone, I run either a TS808 or a Wampler Clarksdale into a Wampler Black 65 (the gain on the Black set to zero).

I can get real close to SRV tones (my favorite Fender amp tone) with a Strat and these pedals into anyone of my Fender amps at reasonable volumes.

I've tried many OD pedals with my Fender amps and a TS type pedal seems to work the best for me.

Yep it's the Princeton 68 reverb. I thought it was described as a reissue.

Cosmetically it matches an original '68 pretty closely. From what I can tell the electronics are a little different, but probably not drastically that different from the original Princeton Reverb schematic(s).

This is my speculation, but I think I'm pretty close to describing what Fender did:

Fender more than likely lowered the negative feedback (that kind of defines late 60's Fender amps, but I digress) and boosted the mids in the tone stack. It's also possible they added a little more filtering in the power section. Then Fender used a British voiced speaker. This would get you to a slightly more aggressive Princeton Reverb without diming the amp.

It reads more complicated than it actually is, but it's just a handful of different value parts. These amps are pretty straight-forward, almost simple designs compared to today's modern amps.

I can't help you with the box's original materials, but I can tell you that your Strat and Tele will thank you for this purchase.

My previous Swart Space Tone and my current Atomic Jr. were based on the Princeton model. Man my Strat, Tele, and LP (P-90's) sing thru my amps!

Two completely different amps. Your Swart was based off the Tweed Princeton, a single-ended power section, no negative feedback loop, 5 watt (on a good day) rating and 8" speaker. More like a Tweed Champ with a tone control. Think raw and rowdy overdrive. Cool amps, but very different from the '68 Reissue.

The '68 is based off the Blackface, Class A/B amp with a conservative 12 watt rating and 10" speaker. It also has a two-band eq, reverb (post preamp) and power tube vary bias tremolo. Think tighter, louder with an over-the-edge break-up.

68 CPR is a great sounding amp. I A/B'd one with my vintage PR and both amps sounded great.

You may still need a Tubescreamer type pedal for lower volume overdrive with the amp. Not a bad thing.

I've read good things about the '68 and nice to see somebody A/B'd the amp with a vintage piece. Of all the '65 reissue amps I think the Princeton Reverb is the best (or most authentic sounding) of the bunch, by a mile. So I guess I shouldn't be surprised the '68 is a winner.

In all my Fender amps for SRV tone I run either a TS808 or a Wampler Clarksdale into a Wampler Black 65 (the gain on the Black set to zero).

I can get real close to SRV tones with a Strat into anyone of my Fender amps at reasonable volumes.

I've tried many OD pedals with my Fender amps and a TS type pedal seems to work the best for me.

Mid to late 60's Fender style amps also play with MIAB pedals really well. The Barber Direct Drive and Menatone Workingman's Blue are some of the best MIAB's out there, and neither are very expensive on the used market.

For Tubescreamer flavor I like the versatility of the Xotic BB Preamp, but even a cheap TS Mini is going to sound great.

If the OP doesn't I just might... :hmm:

well, maybe the '68 Deluxe Reverb. I already have my PR build.
