I'm running it through a Laney CUB12R I don't find the natural drive heavy enough for me. Well for reference, I wanna go from Guns N' Roses to Metallica heavy. I just wanna sound good to be honest...
had and sold a laney cub.it just didnt have the sound i wanted.my peavy classic 50 sounds good, but in order to get OD without a pedal i have to carry it outside because its a loud amp, even on 6.

Regarding the switch ring, don’t over tighten. It will warp or crack. I finger tighten while holding the body of the switch from the back after removing the rear cover. Watch out that you don’t scratch the finish wit your fingernails.

As for an overdrive I think the Fulltone OCD and the Boss OS-2 Overdrive/Distortion are good pedals.

Agree on the Boss OS-2. That was my first OD pedal, and I still use it from time to time. The Color knob does a nice job of shaping the compression, sweeping from the airiness of overdrive (OD) to the hard crunch of distortion (DS), plus you can set it in the middle for a more aggressive OD sound that is still outside of the typical highly saturated metal sound. I grew up on Guns N' Roses and Metallica (GOOD Metallica - the old stuff :) as well as Zeppelin, Ozzy with Randy, etc.), and this pedal does a fair job of getting into both territories of gain.

For what it's worth, I prefer passive pickups even if I'm riffing some Metallica, and I like to run a very slightly dirty amp for my "clean" sound for hard rock a'la Guns N' Roses or the like. The OS-2 sounds good pushing into that. For more of a Metallica setup, I run a pristine clean amp and crank the Color on the OS-2 to make it more distortion than OD. It's not perfect, but it's a reasonable facsimile - for me, anyway :) I hope that helps!

It’s fine,....unless it’s crackling. If it’s crackling use DeOxit like @Jymbopalyse says.

Best stuff for all crackling pots. I’ve used it on just about all my guitars and amps!

If you use a spanner tool, I'd suggest dropping by Hobby Lobby and grab a small sheet of leather....
Lay the leather down and put the spanner tool on top of it...

I use leather when pulling a pickup, soldering, etc... Leather helps protect the finish using tools etc...

I love my new traditional '18. I have some questions/possible issues.
1: does the toggle switch get loose over time and starts rotating? I found that mine got loose even after tightening and the switch ring won't even stay aligned and keeps moving.
Even the pointers on the pots are a little loose and I don't have a wrench that will get in there.
2: The volume/tone knobs are acting weird. There is no effect on volume/tone at pointer level 1. Faint noise can be heard when the volume knob is at 1.5 but it's doesn't have any character/sounds like it has a loose connection or something. A nice rolled off volume can be heard at 2 position on the pointer. Is something wrong with my pots? Also there's some cracking before I turn it off completely.
3: What are some 'first' OD/Distortion pedals that you recommend for a nice smooth drive?

3. RAT Pro Co 2 can go from just breaking up to some real dark overdrive/distortion. I’ve had mine for 30 years. Built like a tank.
