I'm really glad I asked for some more photos of this guitar before I traveled about four hundred kilometers to see it.

And the obvious giveaway:

That phony serial and "made in USA" stamp.

Some things are too good to be true.

Yup, fake.
Why do all the people who sell fake LP's drink a case of red bull before taking pictures?

It's one of the nicer fakes I've seen. The fretboard looks ebony, the diamond looks about the right size and the body shape is very nice.

That SG looks like a typical SG standard.

Most likely but with no close up photo of the HS or SN.......coupled with the fact that the LP he is selling is a fake.........

Don't buy that guitar!

It can't even stand still for the pics!
Apart from playing "Shakin' All Over", that thing is useless.

Shitty photography but I don't think it's fake. What is the obvious giveaway - the fact that they were not Custom Shop guitars before 2003 and had USA style serial numbers?

eBay item number:321411452525. Headstock looks the same to me aside from the tuners.

At the risk of sounding arrogant (and maybe proven wrong) maybe you should learn more about a product before calling it fake.

Just my thoughts but...you would think that someone who is trying to sell a guitar for 2 grand would provide more than just a single photo from a distance of the guitar in its case. No close ups no SN# nothing... No effort speaks volumes .

It does have an eerily similar serial number stamp.

Can someone vouche if, possibly, early nineties Customs have this similar serial stamp when they were still in production at the USA plant? That could be a nineties case. If so this guitar is certainly not eight years old. If this is genuine I'd certainly snatch it.

I don't think its fake either. Every Chinese custom I've seen has the small diamond inlay on the headstock the size of what's on an epiphone. Clear pics would help, can't get a decent look at the bridge or to see if there's nibs, but I heard the newer fakes now have nibs. If it is fake sadly there getting better at it.

Agreed...more effort should be given..hell I give more effort when selling a $100 pedal.

I would NEVER post a photo of my serial number. Now, having said that, I always post decent photos of the rest of the guitar.

I'm not sure about the serial number thing, but it seems quite real to me.

If the Chinese are making fakes like that, even with the blur pics, we're in trouble.

Tell the guy you need clear, hi-res pics before you'll make the trip. If he doesn't want to do it, just skip it.

As the French may say, it looks le 'git to moi! I think the issue you may be seeing with the serial number is lighting, making part of it look white like some of the poorer stamped fakes, but everything on that fiddle looks real to me, although, obviously, better pics would be nice.

Yeah I thought the serial number was stamped on with white paint but it's probably an actual imprint with a reflection.

I sent him another email. I'm probably wrong here.

I can understand why you'd be reluctant...but as a buyer....If I'm going to travel a great distance to purchase a guitar (which I have) I want to know as much as possible about it...including the SN to verify before I make the trip. I want to see photo proof and of course I want to see it from several angles...especially when we are talking about sums in the 2000's :)

This guy lives about 5 minutes from me, but I have not enough Gibson knowledge to go over and tell you if its a real one or not. It isn't listed as a Gibson though, his SG is.

I have provided photos of the SN to prospective buyers when requested. Posting it in an online ad or on a public forum is a whole other matter.

Agreed.....not sure I would either......Just irked me that the guy is asking 2 G's but provides next to nothing as far as photo's or info
