Hi All,

here is something you may find interesting. The small clip contains a simple riff recorded three times, each using one of the gear bellow:

Wampler Plextortion into JVM clean
Carl Martin Plexitone Single Channel into JVM clean
JVM 215C OD 1 green channel

preamp out was recorded direct into TwoNotes WOSIII plugin, for cab/poweramp emulation.

Of course this might not be the order in which they were recorded :naughty:

Which one is which? Can you rank them in order of preference?

Sorry for the crap playing.

#2 sounds best. None sounds what I would consider "awesome."

Thanks for posting this! I definitely liked #2 Best. I'll say #1 was Wampler, #2 was JVM, # 3 was Carl Martin.

I'm looking for a Marshally pedal at the moment, and if #2 was one of the pedals, I'm going to consider getting one...

#2 is also my preferred. Interestingly enough, it is NOT the JVM, but the Wampler into the clean JVM.

So

#1 is the JVM
#2 is the Wampler
#3 is the Carl Martin

Some disclaimers here:

(i) of course the pedals go into a clean Marshall preamp.
(ii) the poweramp/cab emulation plays an important role in the final tone.
(iii) nothing beats a real _loud_ roaring Marshall :slash:
(iv) my skills at dialing out tones are very limited

Given that, I don't have the slightest intention of comparing the pedals to the real thing in broader terms.

My objective was to simply do a quick evaluation of my gear for this very specific scenario - bedroom late night silent practicing/recording - where cranking the amp is simply not an option.

IMO both the Wampler and CM did very well. The Wampler seems more "throaty", but hey, they are supposed to emulate different things (JCM vs Plexi). They are both great pedals.

Cheers!
