Look at the eBay item page and to the far right of the description and shipping and payments tabs is a link for "Report Item".

Now you can do it yourself and not have to ask someone to do it for you!

Or ask them a question? Perhaps the pawn shop doesn't know it is fake?

At the risk of sounding dumb, how can you tell it is fake?

Headstock -
* appears to have the multi-ply binding (as a custom should have),
* diamond inlays(as a custom should have)
* two bolt hole truss rod cover(as a real Gibson should have, unlike the imports with three screws)

What the heck am I missing?

Body - I can't tell what I should be looking for here?

I really want to learn this stuff so that I don't ever get burned, therefore I am asking serious questions here, not trying to be a wise guy or anything like that.

Rosewood fingerboard
No fret-end nibs
Epi-font on truss-rod cover
Epi-slotted bridge-posts
Gold screws in pickup rings

etc. etc.

This is stock Chibson, and no attempt has been made to deal with the obvious signs. There are many other dead giveaways of a more subtle nature. People on this site and others tend to keep those to themselves though.

The more I looked at it I did finally see something that looks wrong to me.

The bridge appears to be an ABR, and unless this was a historic or an actual old guitar which I do not think it is based on condition and serial number style (R7 etc..), it should have a Nashville bridge- right?
Also, the bridge should not have studs with straight blade screw driver slots in them either - right?

Thank you, I see these things now. :thumb:

I emailed the guy letting him know it's bogus.
He came back asking "how can you tell?"
Maybe he just doesn't know, why else would he come back to me appearing ignorant? :hmm:
I also told him to be prepared to be bombarded with emails and also be prepared to have his auction reported.

Reported and questioned the seller. It's still listed, so ebay's slacking on this one. It's worth 1/10th what they are asking, no more.
