Hi,

I just bought 1983 Gibson Lespaul from my friend. He claims that this guitar is all original parts whereby I am not sure whether it is true as it seems the pickups has been removed.

Anyone, please help me check whether it is all original parts or not.

Thanks in advance.

What evidence do you base this on? We would need to see the inside of the control cavity as well as the backs of the pickups to determine that. :hmm:

How can anyone tell if the pickups have been swapped when the only pictures you have provided show nothing but their covers? That is like asking if the engine in a car has been changed without ever opening the hood.

It looks good to me. Those appear to be the correct pups for that vintage. The solder joints look reasonable so they may well indeed be original.

Overall, that guitar is in very good condition and looks to be all original parts. I'd say you have a winner!

If the soldering job is what is bugging you, I have seen many that look worse than that which I know for a fact are factory. Even if they were removed and put back, they look to be correct for that year and the work is as I said, reasonable.

Gibson has had some of the sloppiest soldering work through the years. It just depends on who did it and on what day. I have some USA Hamers that are a work of art in the control cavity. Gibsons? Not so much. :hmm:

Anyone can tell me
1. Is it 1983 original hardshell case ?
2. Why is the neck made from maple ? Instead of Mahogany

They (Gibson) switched to maple necks in the late 70's on the Les Paul models. It may bother some purists, but the Lesters I've played with the maple neck were fine guitars. These necks are very stable.

They switched back later in the '80s and the pre Historics & reissues were mahogany too I believe.

The case looks to be correct for that time period but I won't swear that it is the original. Others here may provide better info on that.
