not sure of what's in there, but being a former owner of a MIK Alpine White, the pick-ups are pretty damn-good!

Alnico Classics, with Alnico 5 magnets. Neck 8.5K and Bridge 13.85K. Gibson 57 Classics have Alnico II magnets and spec out at Neck 8.15K and Bridge 8.52K :)

Dark Helmet--love that name, 'Space Balls!' LOL!!

Wasn't John Candy's character [Chewbacca] named 'Barf?'

Is it just me or is that kind of low for a bridge pick up?

I also have a MIK Custom. I love that guitar. I put GFS Mean/Dream 90s in mine and love my tone to death.

If you're referring to the 57 Classic Plus at 8.52K, that is pretty much the wind you'll get on most PAF type pups. The Gibson BB 3's are wound to 8.8K. Even the SD Pearly Gates bridge pup is less than that at 8.35K. I always thought the Epi Alnico Classic Plus was too hot for my taste being 13.85K. It's just a matter of choice. :)

Well I learned something today :laugh2: I always figure for some reason (probably my like for hotter pickups) that the bridge was higher. Hmm now I know :laugh2: Thanks for that info :)

I think a lot of players prefer hotter bridge pups. The SD "Hotrodded Humbucker" set is really popular and part of the reason could be the SH-4 JB for the bridge. This one specs out at 16.4K with an Alnico V magnet. If you haven't seen the SD comparison chart before, it's really an interesting read with sound clips. :)

wow, awesome info guys, just awesome!

anyone have the specs on a 496/498s? (or even the 500s?) from Gibson?

I'm in the process of buying a new guitar and want the bridge pup to be AT LEAST as hot as the EpiLPC that I already have...

also I see that the 500s only come w/o covers. any reason you can't add covers to them?

Here's a link to an old post here that might help. It's hard to find info on the exact DC resistance to some Gibson pickups. There's more to it than that anyway. These charts spell it out pretty good.

You should be able to put covers on any Humbucker, if you want to.

thanks again... a lot of people seem to dislike the 498s, so I'm going just get the Classic Custom and the 57 Classics and I'll upgrade the bridge if I feel like I need it.
