when an artist is endorsed by a pickup company they can only play that brand of pickups. for example you are with seymour duncan but you also play dimarzio and seymour duncan knows about it

No. It's very rare for any endorsement - from pickups to guitars - to be exclusive. Since most endorsers of high-end gear are compensated with product and perks rather than cash, there is usually no exclusivity stipulation.

Frankie,

I'm going to stop by your house and drop off a present for you soon. Sorry I missed your birthday barbeque.

Artists like Paul Gilbert and Steve Vai, who probably have contracts signed with DiMarzio must exclusively use (at least in public) their products because they are generally receiving compensation for each unit sold. Or they could have agreed to a yearly sum for representing their product.

I heard from a reliable source that i won't mention, that George Lynch receives $15 for every Screamin Demon that Seymour sells.

As Frankie stated, most smaller companies use their product as compensation. But if your someone like a Zakk Wylde, who I heard makes roughly $20 million per year in endorsements, you can call your own shots....Some artists really sell product like him.....some don't. I know Zakk brings in a lot sales for EMG as well as probably Gibson who, as you know, produces his signature guitars.

There really is no set program. Each company has its own different plan. I have an endorsement program which can be found on my MySpace site (link provided). I will have it on my regular website too when it is up and running.

Kevin, I am no pro, but anything if I can do to help you promote your pickups I will gladly help you.

It depends on the contract and level of sponsorship.
most "endorsements" are a "B" contract, allowing you to use other brands, with this contract you do not get anything free , just a big discount.
I have three level B contracts, never had a A , but I do not do this for a living.
