I recently acquired a Japanese 'paul, an older Orville Les Paul Custom (tuxedo black w/gold hdw). She's a 'beaut, with straight neck and traditional LP look and feel. Unfortunately, it has typical Japanese electronic components. The switch is iffy and the pots are scratchy. The PUs are ok, but I'd like some nice US PUs in there. I have a SD Seth Lover I was thinking about for the neck, and have an older PAF and a couple Pat # stamped PUs that could fit the bridge. I am looking at probably swapping the entire harness out. Any recommendations on the components? I was thinking a Switchcraft switch, CTS 550K pots and oil-filled caps for the controls, but am open to suggestions on those and the PU setup. I am pretty much into tube amps and good old Rock'n Roll & Blues, so not looking for any "shred" type of sound.

Hit up one of the forum vendors....Martinsixstringcustoms, Jonseyblues or ReWind. All have harnesses, switches etc with varying degrees of vintage authenticity (and degrees of DIY needed to make it finished).

The pickups are a personal matter of course, but if I had a PAF or pat# pickups 'just lying about' there is no force on gods green earth that would have me even considering other pickups......assuming these are real vintage ones and not just more modern 57 classics or the 490 series that have the pat# on the bottom.
