If you get tired of hearing about slash on a LP forum, go to a strat forum and hear about hendrix all day. It's not really that hard...

Back in the day slash was quoted saying that he used to kick his pedals off the stage from all the running/ jumping around. I would have an issue if someone else was controlling his wah pedal, since the 'expression' needs to come from the player. I don't care if someone else is switching channels/ effects--if you're in the crowd would you rather a musician stand in front of a pedal board and screwing with his effects all night or is it better to try to connect with as many fans as possible? Just a thought.

I tried out a Marshall Slash AFD, came out thinking something was missing a bit [maybe a LP Loaded with Duncan Alnic Pro II?]--anyways, I prefer his first siganture, the Slash 25/50 series he used to tour with, it was more ballsy-sounding [I had the 50-watt version long ago, damn i miss that amp]

Knopfler, Moore, SRV, R. Gallagher...
there are loads of easily recognizable guitarists..
Jack White, myself...and so on...
slash is just a good player, not more or less

I'm sorry but other than SRV, who's not currently making music, I don't think anyone on that list is as recognizable as Slash. BB King yeah, Gallagher, Moore? No. And while I'm a huge Jack White fan if you're not already a fan of his you probably wouldn't know who he was. You see a shitload of hair and a top hat and you know who it is.

I'm gonna get killed for saying this, but it occurred to me that there's a reasonable chance that The Edge might be more widely recognized than Slash. If you think about it, everyone knows U2.

They know U2, but do they Know The Edge? I know people who know bands and love their music but can't name one member of the band.

are they not able to switch their own pedals with their own feet as they used to do before...

If you have a tech that knows, and I mean REALLY knows which pedal to use at the right time, you're not tied to your pedal board. It makes for a much better show imho. I used to do this for both guitar players I used to work for in the 80's.

Looks like he's fat now...

kinda fed up with all those Slash's threads....

...not a Slash fanboy, and also fed up with the Slash threads, but I just saw him in concert a couple weeks ago, and the dude is jacked up. ...50 year old dude with a legit 6 pack... He's been working out.

who cares, slash's solo music is so generic one overdrive pedal would do the trick--- yep i said it---

and i like the guy, but i would rather see a bar band play than this generic myles kennedy crap

The tech switching pedals for the artists has been going on for decades. Pretty sure dimes tech did his switching as well. When you're on a certain size stage it makes complete sense, and would almost be a necesity..

Dude give it up! i love knopfler as much as the next guy but the op is right! Slash has become the quintessential rock guitarist of the last 20 years. Maybe you don't think he's that good or he's all image but that's not the point is it. I think I can make the argument that slash is far more recognizable/popular today than Clapton was in his heyday, same thing for eddie in the 80's. Most 8 year old's today know who slash is. Just like james dean and the Fonz he's an icon of a certain attitude and era . Tophat/cigarette hanging from lips /hair covering most of his face/ shirtless/les paul :dude:. Long after he's dead that will be the iconic image of a bad ass rock guitarist. For the record i'm not a big slash fan but the truth is the truth.
You've gone off the deep end. :slash:

As far as the effects switching - I completely understand why he does it. He moves around a lot onstage and can't be tied down to a board. Also he's putting on a high energy rock show. Can you imagine someone like him or Angus Young (who doesn't use pedals but just as an example) standing at a pedalboard for a whole show?! I can't. Those guys are high energy dudes and move around too much. Guys like Joe Perry who does move around some but not as much, are more apt to stand there and man a pedalboard or be more apt to use a traditional pedalboard instead of rack effects or a pedal switcher. Joe does use a Bradshaw board but does all of the changing himself.

Now me myself, I am glued to my pedalboard during a show (I do exacting covers in a party band) but I'm not doing much moving around anyway. Just don't have the energy for one thing. And I'm more "clinical" in that I approach it very professionally almost as a sideman session guy who is just going through the motions. I put lots of feeling into it but I sometimes forget to smile or look at the crowd. Sometimes I have to remember to look as if it isn't work or to not look so intense/serious. I am wireless but generally only walk away and out front during a longer solo. But otherwise I stay and man the board. My rig is so complicated I don't think a tech could handle it. Too many changes during a song. And if someone messed up my effects I'd not be happy at all as they are crucial for me to do what I do.

Same for kravitz, only a wha on stage...
the rest is switched by his guitar tech.
I'm a big fan of LK (and of what slash did on the mama said album) but I really don't understand why all the pedals are now switched backstage.
what do they fear? a cable problem? no battery? hey it's rock 'n' roll!!!
Technical problem like finger mistake on the neck is part of the trip.
last real rock'n'roll performance I saw Was jack white's stripes...
I hope he's not gonna ask someone to switch his pedals for him too..

maybe i'm just too oldschool.
by the way, I like slash too, but i don't really dig his musical choices.
good guitar player anyway
It's pretty simple really, he doesn't want to be tied to the pedalboard when he's doing a lead that doesn't require him being stationary (wah) , is that so hard to understand? If I were a professional musician, I'd have my guitar-tech do all the switching for me as well. Tapdancing on a pedalboard ain't my idea of performing.
