Seems like a unanimous vote for the SLP! Of course, it's only a matter of time until a vote for a modeling amp is cast. :laugh2::thumb::laugh2:

I have had 4 SLPs.. Couldn't wait to get rid of them.. But I did like them in the late 70s. What's that.. 40 years ago?

Here are some amps playing Zep stuff live--the Phaez isn't as incapable as many here are labeling it to be--wondering how many have actually played that amp at all. In the end I moved the SIBLY because it had that el84 'feel' that all these 18w variants seem to have. The JMP50 was a mid seventies metal panel clone but I got the same sort of results with the 50w 1987x Marshalls I've played. AXE is straight up badass haha.

Who could ever take offense to such an innocuous comment.

I like a Marshall amp as much as the next guy, thus my comments above stating that the Marshall sounds like the way to go for the OP. However, I would think that one's needs would dictate whether the two amps are comparable or not. If the OP wanted mid 70's Page tone and the ability to play 80's stuff without using a pedal the SIBLY would be the better fit, as would any other similar amps made by other builders.

A Fender Strat will do a pretty good job giving you Page's mid 70s sound too but if thats the exact sound you wanted, you would probably choose a LP over a Strat right?

I would go for the Marshall 1959 or the 50 watt 1987 Lead.
A 1976 I got for 1200.00 online with the Siemens original EL34 tubes, and it has the 4 speaker jack option.

You will always be able to sell the Marshall. As you can see the PCB has the Mustards and sounds great.

Using the new Power Station you can dime the SL and get your sound at
bedroom levels, which is like 1/2 volume for me.

Tons on amps on ebay now, take your time and get a good one.

If one has the luxury of putting together specific rigs for specific tones then why not be OCD about it. :thumb: I own a strat as well as an LP, the strat hasn't been plugged in for a few years. :laugh2:

I will agree that the sibly will have a lot more gain then a plexi. So unless you're looking for the jumped plexi tone with a treble booster or color sound overdrive infront of it I'd stay away from the sibly. but if your looking for a round, fat almost clean sound I'd say a Marshall. The sibly is amazing but very tight in it's sound.

While this is probably the best Plexi type amp on the market right now my guess is if he's considering a SIBLY then the budget won't stretch that far. :hmm:

What a way to stretch it, though. :D

Honestly my splawn quickrod 100 watter sounded soo stupid filthy amazing 1st gear setting would nail these tones. But I sold it because while it was amazing it was A. Heavy B.loud C. I got my favorite tone from it out of a phaez dc and had enough money to buy 2 more phaez's. Haha

there may be a new issued DC this year having premium parts...Randy is making changes to his site,he is trying to make it easier to make a buy....
it may also have a new name on the site DaisyCutter Amps. If and when it happens I will let MLP know ...JIM

Marshall guy here. But go for the SLP.

Easy to mod (relatively speaking) and not as loud as you might thing. Not for a bedroom or apartment, but great for the home alone afternoons. Place the cab flush with the wall, facing it, and that'll cut a lot of the volume. Put some blankets in front of the speakers for even more attenuation. Or as you stated that you wanted, run the attenuator. Either way, a great amp.

The beauty of Phaez is the "tones for the bones" as put by another member here. When the price is so close you should get the real thing. Unless you've already owned a Phaez and know what you're getting.

I've owned 4, still own 3 Phaez amps. Every one delivered the tones I asked for. And all were based on copping other tones. I bought mine for roughly 30% of what it would have cost to buy the amp(s) I wanted. I have no doubt that the Phaez will deliver, but when you want the real thing and it's within a couple hundred dollars. I'd opt for the real deal. Phaez resale isn't the best.
