any particular reason why? Didnt you just have that amp built?

Although he will probably chime in himself, in another thread he said it was too loud.

I can understand that from my experience with the MLP-35, but as a master volume amp it does pretty good at low volumes. However, for that type of playing my low wattage amps actually sound better at the volumes I'm using it for. It is when I can crank it that the MLP will become the winner tonally.

I think what it comes down to is buying the right amp for the right application. I hope to add a lower wattage Phaez in the near future, though I'm not completely sure which one. (DC10, SIBLY Seven, or maybe something new.) I'm just finding that low wattage works best for my application. Apparently I'm not alone in that.

to each their own, just curious. my jtm 18 is great at low volumes as long as we arent taking headphone volume. the volume stuff just throws me for a loop, i get better tone out of my 18 watt phaez at low volume than my 5 watter.

not that my 5watter is bad.

My two cents, 'cause I can't resist.

I've found that my best result for getting what I call low volume* playing is to use something 15-25 W (probably a push/pull 6V6 or EL84), and just crack the master. I like that better than a 5Wish amp with the master on like two or three (for the same volume, give or take). Speakers are key too. When I do have to resort to being reasonably not loud (like, any night after bloody seven), I nearly always hook up to the Silver Bell / Blue Dog 2x12, both undoped and 15W. The extra shine and shimmer and articulation helps make up for the sound of a starved power section. Works pretty decently. Anyways, I'd rather a good PP, MV if needed, that holds up to that "just cracked" setting. Most don't. Some do. Those are the ones I want when I can't be loud.

*Which is important to note, since what we each are calling "low volume" might vary greatly, from still rockin' a garage, to basically headphone levels. For my needs, "low volume" is more like 'kinda loud TV' volume. If I can't get at least that loud, I don't play. But, of course, the point is that the conclusion can totally change depending on what we want. For stupid low volume, like headphone levels from a speaker, I'd probably suggest a monitor into some kind of full range speaker, with it's own separate EQ controls. Or, just use a real low-watt guitar speaker. Or...

Also, I like how I can like a post while disagreeing with the conclusion... Argument's flawless though.

i'd love to hear that, whats the setting?
Normall I use the blackface channel on my BlackDaisy and put a Tube screamer in there for the SRV tone, but you can get it as well with the daisycutter

IMO with the daisycutter, keep the gain low or to just about where the amp breaksup and bring in the volume. Settings I use are: Treble: 1 o'clock, Mid at 11-12 o'clock. The Bass can go from noon to 2 o'clock depending on how much body you want in your tone, but thats usually where you get the SRV tone section.

Wish I could remember.... Bluesymetalhead now owns the amp... :D

Your amp is the same circuit and tubes as that one. I think you want to back off the gain and turn up the mids and then master volume to dial it in... That's what I used to do anyway.

I hear that, but for my Phaez I'm running two EL-34's - I think those aren't the tubes you want if you are planning on low volume playing as your primary use. Don't get me wrong - the brown base EL-34's I'm running in my Phaez sound incredible - they just need a bit more volume than I typically play at to get there.

On the other hand, the lower wattage amps I have are running closer to their sweet spot and don't suffer from the same problem. Whether an 18W or less Phaez would work for me, I guess I'll find out when I order one. I'm looking forward to checking it out. :D

just spent 6 hours playing with my 25 watt daisycutter. (picture one page back).

this thing freaking kills. holy crap where has it been all my life? the mid control turns it from fendery/mesa boogie to plexi marshall, and not in a bullshit modeling way, this thing sounds freaking legit. the mid control basically makes this amp. and the ultra touch sensitivity is just icing on the cake.

i can see why you people freak about this things so much. i'm a believer.

to give you some perspective, i played a peavey classic 30, a fender 75, egnater tweaker, orange tiny terror, and my friends 50 watt marshall JMP. the JMP was the best amp i ever played, until i played the daisycutter. it kills the production line amps, and matches and surpasses the JMP.

considering the price, these things are the best amps around. the headcab i got is the red one on phaez's homepage. it's amazingly built. really beautiful super high quality.

i suspect i will have this amp my entire life, and i doubt it will be my last phaez.
