That "Guess I'm A Fool" video brought a smile and nearly a tear to my eye. I saw him with Splinter Group when he first started playing again and I was saddened to see him in such a state. That video is a 100% reversal of what I witnessed and I couldn't be happier. Almost like getting dumped and then getting your old girlfriend back.

That Jazzy tone reminds me of Les Paul himself playing.

What a lovely way to revisit an old legend. Really enjoyed all these vids. That first vid of Pretty Woman so reminded me of Albert King in his later years. Gorgeous! And so much NICER than Gary Moore's!

I still don't get this blinkered view that every great player has to be sporting a Les Paul? Don't you guys like to see these wonderful old players coaxing some sweet sounds out of other interesting instruments? Open your minds ferchrisakes and be the better for it!

He's playing here in Dublin in October. I am very much looking forward to seeing him, even though I know its gonna be a little bitter-sweet.

I have this dvd of him. He doesn't seem to be the least bit upset about what happened to him. He just kinda shrugs it off. His old bandmates and friends seem more pissed about what happened, the german incident and that kind of stuff. It's good to see more people appreciating Peter Green. So here is a treat, the extras from that dvd.

I stumbled on this piece of interview were he talks about Clapton and about his own LP.

Interview with Peter Green, Guitarist (UK), September 1999 (Issue 185), pp. 74-78.

Guitarist [referring to Clapton while with the Yardbirds]: Clapton didn't impress you much at first then?

Peter Green: Well, I wasn't a lead guitarist then, I played bass. Anyway, he was the other side of the stage so I couldn't hear it too well. It was all very good, though, very exciting. And I decided to go back on lead guitar after seeing Eric Clapton. I'd seen him with the Bluesbreakers before he considered singing and his whole concentration was on his guitar--he had a Telecaster--and it was really impressive. Then he had a Les Paul and his fingers were marvelous. It took everything away from me, like my birthday, Christmas; you forgot everything, just listen to this. All music that you'd ever heard was washed away by this group of guys that were letting Eric Clapton take the floor.

I loved Les Paul and Mary Ford and I was surprised to see this guitar turned over to this style, but once it got there it was just ... you couldn't compare it to anything. This guy knew how to do a bit of evil, I guess.

Guitarist: So you had to go and buy one?

Green: I stumbled across one when I was looking for something more powerful than my Harmony Meteor. I went into Selmer's in Charing Cross Road and tried one. It was only 110 pounds [price, not weight] and it sounded lovely and the colour was really good. But the neck was like a tree trunk--like the tree trunk was spliced down the middle and half of it was used for your guitar neck! It was very different from Eric's, which was slim: very fast action. I've never seen another guitar with such an old-fashioned neck. But I couldn't consider the Telecaster for some reason and I didn't want a Stratocaster.

Y'know Eric's Les Paul would go for fifty million now. It was a special one. Mine was a funny old fuddy-duddy, sweet old thing. If I had my time again I wouldn't sell my Harmony Meteor, I'd progress on that because the sound was so lovely at the Mayall audition. I use a Fender Strat now and a Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion model, but I'm thinking of getting a Gretsch Roc-Jet as well--the Roc-Jet is a lovely old thing.

I love it how he talks about those guitars.

i read in interview where he was saying he thought LPs were beautiful and special, and that it bothered him to see people mistreating them. I think he was talking about players who use LPs for shredding or hard rock or whatever. It sounded like he was in reverence of the Les Paul. I discovered a FM forum online, and theres a person who claims to be a neice of Peter (i dont doubt the claim) and she said that he has 100+ guitars in his possession and about half stay in storage. Im sure he has (or could have if he wanted to) all sorts of amazing guitars. he wouldnt be the only player to make a name for themselves in the 60s on a LP, then stopped playing them

I know peters nephew, have done for over 20 years, he posts on the FM forum too. Yes peter does have that many guitars, his storage facility can be seen in the extras on his life story dvd, but as far as Im aware he owns no les pauls, despite many people trying to put them in his hands...

Hes doing a gig in ireland soon too if anyone's over there...

yeah, i saw that vid, he says he had no LPs and seemed like he has less than no interest in them. although in some of the vids he's seen playing a Vintage LP copy

he played an epi lp recently , but tbh a guitar is a guitar to peter you could give him his old 59 back and hed have no more interest in it than the epi..

the German inccident was very creepy. Apparently Danny Kirwan joined Peter and the mysterious mansion people back then and since then he's been mentally ill and erratic for the rest of his life. Nasty stuff... keep off weird stuff, kids!
